Mission: The Fall
Location: Holodeck

The alarm chimed to wake up the new ensign, tired as he was. Arashi was still getting acclimated to the ship and the fact that he wasn't on Earth anymore. He took a sonic shower and put on his uniform. "Computer, what is my itinerary for today?" He asked and the computer chimed in with the answer. "Training at the Holodeck with Lieutenant JG Yarin, then security functions for you daily shift." the computer said. "Well than, I guess that it is time to head down and get ready." He said as he headed out toward the turbolift. "Deck 5, holodeck 2 please." He said as the door made a slight whoosh sound as it closed. He arrived rather quickly at his destination and waited at the holodeck, ready to go.

Yarin arrived at the holodeck, seeing Ensign Tanaka already there he keyed up the proper program. "Computer run program Yarin Scret Joip."
Once the program was completed he walked in Ensign Tanaka soon followed. Inside was an padded room with an array of weapons from different worlds and cultures. "Do you have a preference for long range or close combat weapons?" Yarin asked.

Arashi smiled as he picked up a katana from the table and a matchlock rifle. "I can do both. I know that I might need to do both sometimes." he said. "When I had time at the Academy, I would train in the use of the katana by staging historical battles from my homeland. Where I come from, before Starfleet came into being, we had a proud martial tradition. The warriors were the epitome of honor and courage." He set the rifle down for a moment and got on his knees. In one fluid motion he drew the sword from its sheath and slashed out as if he was attacking an enemy. Of course there was no enemy there but he continued as he attacked his imaginary opponents and cut them down. After the demonstration he flicked the imaginary blood off his sword and returned it to its sheath.

“You can only fight the way you practice, a famous warrior from my home land once said." Arashi said and turned to pick up his phaser rifle. "So what is on the training agenda today?" He asked the question as he strapped the sword to his side.

"Pick out the weapons of your culture, I will do the same." Yarin said as he pulled his weapons off the wall. He laid them on the table and pointed to each in turn. "The Tovreet, the Jeair, the Acklod, and the Rasnot." he said indicating to the dagger, bladed shield, throwing axe and spiked flail respectively. "We will trade weapons, we will use them, we will make mistakes, we will correct each other and we will learn." Yarin said.

He took his katana and took some bo-shuriken from the table after setting the matchlock rifle aside.. "Very well sir." He said and took a wakazashi from the table as well. He saw a Yari and Yumi that he took off the wall and set it aside. "These are the weapons of the warriors my people call samurai. In my culture they are revered for their skill and honor." Arashi said with some pride. "Whenever you are ready sir." He bowed to the Lieutenant and got ready to train.

"Computer add twenty training dummies." he turned to the Ensign. "We will fight these, use the weapons how you see fit. I will correct you if need be."

Arashi waited for the training to begin as he picked up Yarin's weapons to try out. He looked at the weapons and then swung them slowly around to get used to them.

Yarin followed suit, first picking up the Yari and then the Wakazashi and a few of the shuriken, then moved over to train. He swung the sword lightly leaving shallow cuts on the dummies. He threw the shuriken at an opponent but they did not stay in the body. He then hurled the Yari from across the room and struck an enemy in the chest. He then turned to see how the young ensign was doing.

Arashi watched for a moment and decided to teach Yarin about the Yari later. He threw the axe and stuck a target in the lower leg and he took the bladed shield and didn't know what to do with it for a moment. Figuring out that it wasn't just used for protection he took a few practice swings and proceeded to take down a few targets with it. He picked up the flail and swung it around, having it come close to smacking him in the leg. He got a swing in that took out a dummy's chest and then he followed up with the blades on the shield to finish off the opponent. He picked up the dagger and threw it at a dummy hitting it in the arm but it fell out, falling to the ground. "So how did I do?" Arashi asked. "Do I need to practice more?"

"When using the Jeair it is best to strike first with the base of the shield to disorient then slash with the blades. In addition pushing the button on the side of the Tovreet extends the handle and turns it into a spear. How did I do Ensign?"

He walked over and picked up the yari. "The yari is not a throwing weapon but a close combat weapon. Computer, activate samurai with yari and armor." He said and the computer activated the hologram. He held the spear and the hologram attacked. "It is mainly used to stop infantry and calvary charges or used in general melee. You try to make openings in your opponent's guard by striking and feinting attacks." He tried to feint an attack but the hologram knocked the spear out of his hand. The samurai tried to take his head but Arashi jumped over the spear and picked up a bo-shuriken and threw it impaling the samurai's eye. "The bo-shuriken merely takes practice and the use of the wrist. Mainly used as a distraction by the assassins known as ninja in my home on earth, they can be used to kill by mixing the tip with poison."

"I believe that is enough weapons practice, now I think we should work on unarmed combat are you trained in any form of martial arts?" Yarin asked

"I have practiced a bit of Karate, and aikido in my youth but not much other than the standard hand to hand taught at the academy."Arashi said and waited to see what was going to happen for the training as he deactivated his holodeck samurai.

"I have some training in Sak Worra it is a fighting style developed on my homeworld that uses telepathy to anticipate your opponent's next move. However it is uneffective on non carbon based life and beings with too alien a mindset from the user."

"Wow, that seems like it would be a hard martial art to defeat. I will give it my best however."Arashi said. He waited for Yarin to start the training. He was going to go full tilt in this fight and not give up until he was knocked out.

Yarin moved his four arms in rapid succession, striking the air as he stepped towards the Ensign. He scanned Tanaka's mind and formulated a strategy.

Arashi stood and closed his eyes for a moment and emptied his mind. He then opened his eyes waiting for a strike but not making any overt movements to show that he was waiting for an attack. He was taught not to think about reacting to an attack but to just react to it without thinking.

Yarin struck with a quick strike to the right with his upper arm, and used the distraction to punch with his upper left, and block a blow with his lower arms.

Responding to the attack, he dodged the blow from the right upper arm and grabbed the upper left arm, throwing him over the shoulder. Arashi took a deep breath and cleared his mind once again, waiting for a strike, ready to defend against it.

Yarin while on his back, kicked up, and using his four hands as a springboard, landed in a standing position using the forward momentum to ram himself into the Ensign knocking him off balance and sending them both tumbling to the floor.

Yarin was able to knock Arashi off balance but he did not panic. He grabbed the Lieutenant by the head to prevent him from being able to knock him out. He struggled a bit but after a few minutes of struggle he was able to roll Yarin over and go full guard. After going full guard he got off and stood up, taking a breath and clearing his mind preparing for the next attack.

Yarin had had enough of this, he ran at the ensign, knocking him over then picked him up with one hand and pushed him up against the nearby wall, holding his hands and legs in place with his remaining arms. "Do you yield?" he asked as he turned a bucolic shade of yellow.

"I yield." Arashi said and relaxed. "Are you usually this aggressive in a fight?" He was curious as to why the Lieutenant seemed to be frustrated.

Yarin dropped Tanaka. "I apologize Ensign." He breathed deeply and his skin regained its normal gray pallor. "It has been a long day, Computer end program."

"It's all right sir. No harm, no foul." Arashi said. "Well, I will be getting back on duty soon. If you'll excuse me." He had a smile on his face and it had been a good training session so far. He bowed to Yarin, much like he did his sensei back on Earth and left the Holodeck.
