Second star to the right and straight on till morning. That was the last heading Captain Kirk gave on the Enterprise-A before his retirement. Now as I look out among the sea of stars I can't help but think that we might as well use the same to set our course back to what we all know and call home. I've done the math, it would take us between 70 and 75 years to get back to the Alpha Quadrant. 70 if we can maintain this ships stable cruise velocity.
Voyager is an impressive ship, but she wasn't meant to be out in space for long term missions without support. From what I've seen though, Starfleet has upped her weaponry making her tougher in a fight them most science vessels. From what he could tell from the Liberty's sensors readings the ship was probably a new version of explorer. Starfleet moving away from the larger ships like the Galaxy Class to a leaner type of ship more reminiscent of Heavy Cruisers like the Constitution Class ships of the 23rd century.
Starfleet has always built rather durable ships. So Voyager being able to make such a journey was theoretically possible. This ship's main problem would be supplies and crew. The addition of his people would be a strain on food stores, yes the ship had replicators, however energy conservation would need to be taken into account. Which means more use of real food. Then they have to be prepared to meet more hostile races like the Kazon. Which meant more battles, and a ship only carried so much extra materials o board. They'd need to be on a look out for worlds where they could trade for such materials, or even mine them themselves. Another major problem was personnel. I estimate that this ship was set up to have a crew of around 200. I don't see them being able to run things if it got any lower than 90. Which puts them in the need of using us as additional labor. Question becomes will we become a slave labor force, or equal partners.
They couldn't put us in their brig, because frankly there isn't enough room. So they've put us in spare quarters, and locked the doors till they decide if they're going to officially arrest us or not. Kathryn is as smart as they come, eventually she'll come to realize that she's going to need the help of the 25 Maquis on board to help keep any real hope of making it to the Alpha Quadrant alive. There's only a small handful of us that in some way have Starfleet experience, or training. But even then would they follow her. Could I follow her considering our past? I just don't know.
