Captain's Log, Stardate 49389.7

It's been just over a month since we left Andraste behind, along with the troubling indications of a very hostile race native to this part of the galaxy. The scans taken from Voyager of the wrecked ship which was discovered on the surface of the planet confirm that it had been there for some time. We were able to note several key features of both the hull design and composition, which should allow us to identify any other ship matching those features in the event we encounter one in the future.

I must admit, I would be very happy to never run across a race capable of committing the acts we saw on that planet. I still have nightmares, seeing Ensign Occumbo's death.. Writing the letter which I will one day give to his family regarding how and why he died was one of the hardest things I've done. How he died was not something I wanted to tell them. Why he died is a question I still can't answer..

*2 minutes of silence pass*

Reports from the hydroponics bay are encouraging at least. Many of the plants brought back for use as additions to our food supplies were already producing fruit and vegetables when they were transplanted and those which were not yet 'ripe' are by all accounts doing well. Many of the crew seem to have developed a liking for some of the dishes made using what we've grown but I have to admit, I think my stomach is more finicky than I would have once believed. I've noticed that after some meals, I alternate between stomache pains and headaches..

Maybe I've got an as yet undetermined food allergy..

I think for the time being, I am going to follow Dr. Blaire's advice and stick with either frozen stores that came from the Alpha Quadrant, or replicated meals. I've lost 13 pounds and honestly, waking up at 2 am to vomit is not my idea of how to get a good night's rest.

At least she hasn't ordered me to swear off the coffee for now! Some days without that caffenated boost to my system I have caught myself almost falling asleep sitting on the bridge though thank GOD that hasn't happened yet!

Chakotay would never let me live it down. Neither would Jericho for that matter...

I have enough to worry about without handing them more fuel for "tease the Captain" day!

Tensions between Starfleet and Maquis continue to be an issue. We've had fights break out in the messhall, and on the holodeck between the two factions. Somehow, somehow I have to find a way to merge the two groups into one. It's proving harder than I'd hoped for..

Commander Chakotay is coming in about 20 minutes with his plan for providing an accelerated series of courses designed to help the former Maquis become more familiar with Starfleet protocols and proceedures. I hope this will help quell some of the problems we've been having.. I don't want to be forced into more drastic measures..
