Mission:
A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 62522.629 {Thu, 29 Nov 2384 14:00}
Exiting the 'lift, as she stepped on the Bridge the Captain waved off the standard "Captain's on the Bridge!" from the on-duty security officer as she walked towards where the XO was overseeing final preparations for departure.
After the last week of interviews, briefings, and check lists demanded by Starfleet's Internal Review department, as well as the meetings and briefings with Federation Diplomatic Corps officers to discuss ad nauseum the events taking place on Ithauri, a Diplomatic Corps vessel had departed earlier that morning to go try and minimize the damage caused by the breach of the Prime Directive (as if that alone wasn't bad enough lets send politicians to go 'help'!).
The Victory had received orders just 2 hours ago sending the ship across the border into Sector 9A34 which had been recently opened for exploration after a treaty was signed with a species calling themselves the Bre'Kar made it possible for Starfleet ships to press further into the Delta Quadrant.
"What's our status XO?" the Captain asked as she reached his side. "Are we ready to get out of here?"
Taking on the last of our supplies Captain. Going through the final checklist, so we can get out of here when the word is given." Alec replied with a smile.
"Good to hear. Call a pre-launch briefing to be held in Conference Room 4 in 30 minutes. All department heads to report. I've got our next mission orders.."
"At once." tapping his combadge, Alec spoke. "Senior Staff to Conference Room 4 in 30 minutes. A word to the wise, don't be late." He smirked at Rhea, "Done and Done. How's the nose?" Concern in his voice for her.
Without thinking, she brought a hand up to brush the side of her nose. "Still sore.. but at least it isn't crooked.." Then, in a low voice she said "If we weren't on the bridge I'd say you could try to kiss and make it better.."
His smile grew as he tilted his head to the side, to look at her nose,"Nope, straight as an arrow. Oh don't fret. I plan on kissing it later and I will make it better. Have no doubts about that." His voice equally as low as they were involved in their own little conspiracy.
She smiled, "I look forward to it Commander..." Then, with a jerk of her head towards the Ready Room she said "Come on... Don't want to be late ourselves and set a bad precedent for the other officers to follow."
"I should think so." A smile on his face. "After you Captain. As you said we must keep up a good precedent."
Engineering
Torres was running some checks on the warp core. He had taken the time at SB900 to perform some tweaking of the core and of the ship's warp field configureations. It was actually hard to tweak the engine of a new starship since it still really hadn't been broken in as yet. However he had managed to improve the efficency by .05 percent. Even as he looked over the flow sensor data he was already thinking of some further changes. That was when the message came over the speakers. He turned in his chair to look over at Samatha Raylen, his main assistant. "Well I guess that means you'll have to mind the store. Keep watching the plasma streams. I've got them a little hotter than normal, but the conduits should be able to handle it with no problem." he said as he stood up from his chair.
"Aye sir," Sam answered. "We are detecting a slight fluctuation in one of the cooling system condensers.."
Miguel looked over her shoulder and looked at the display she was looking at. "Yeah that should be nothing, just make sure the backups are all functioning. This ship may have triple redundancy but let's not take any chances. " he told her.
"Aye sir.." she replied. "If anything pops up I'll let you know immediately."
Conference Room 4
Yarin quickly walked into the Conference Room, as he sat down his skin turned an excited shade of fuchsia and he absent mindedly fingered the new pip on his collar.
Miguel entered the conference room, padd in hand as he was continuing to work on ideas he had for modifying various systems. This was one part of the job he had missed. he had to admit that when he wasn't getting shot at, he loved being in Starfleet. He walked over to one of the empty seats and sat down and relaxed until the Captain arrived.
Maz entered the room and quickly took a seat facing the window. He straightened out his uniform and placed his padd on the table to keep in touch with the meetings data.
The Captain entered then, with the XO alongside. Walking towards her seat, as she moved to sit down she said "Good afternoon.. Thank you for arriving on time. Before we get down to the interesting stuff, I want status and readiness reports.. Who wants to go first?"
"We've been resupplied. Our stores are completely stocked in parts, food stuffs and medical supplies . We're in the process of making our final checks so we can get out of here and back among the stars doing what we get paid for..... exploring."
"Good to hear," Kennit replied. "Does that include the extra stores I requested?"
Alec's smile grew, "It most certainly does Captain. They are safely and securely aboard. You can go inspect them any time you please."
"Good," she answered, not giving any indication as to just what it was she'd requested and instead turning her attention to the gathered officers.
"Long range sensors have detected a Class L planet with large deposits of Dilithium and other rare minerals it could be worth looking at," Yarin said.
"Our orders will be taking us to a part of space which even with our long range sensors we can't detect such details Mr. Yarin," the Captain replied. "I am curious however to know what the response was from SB900 Dock control when you ran our sensors while docked at the station. A scan on that magnitude using long range capabilities had to have played havok with their own sensor grids.."
Yarin turned chartreuse a look of chagrin on his face. "There were some problems but nothing the base's science department could not handle."
The Captain just nodded, her expression giving away the fact that she already knew the answer having been contacted by SB900 control earlier. "Just keep it in mind for future reference, our ship is top of the line and her systems are powerful. If we had been at one of the older bases a scan like that could have blown the base systems completely and then I'd have some bean counter on my back demanding someone pay for the damages and I really dislike the bean counters.. they put me in a bad mood.."
"We are locked stocked and ready to go in navigation and in the fighter bay. We are just waiting for coordinates." Maz stated. He looked around the room never officially getting the full tour yet.
The Captain smiled then, "You must be Lieutenant Maz, our new Chief Flight Control officer. I'm sorry I haven't had the chance to meet you personally.. I've been kept tied up with bureaucratic red tape and other matters following our last mission. Bring back a freighter loaded with illegal technology and all sorts of politicians want to get involved and make the mess even messier.."
"The bureaucratic mentality is the only constant in the universe." Miguel said with a smile.
Maz smiled, "It's alright Captain. There will always be time for a tour. All we need is a console and where you want to go and we're happy."
"Well then you're in luck Mr. Maz," the Captain said. "Our orders are taking us across the border zone of explored territory and into the region known as the Khrelan Expanse. To the best of our knowledge, no Federation ship has entered that region of space. A recent treaty made with the Losal Alliance allows us to travel through their territory to get there."
"Fantastic. Were well stocked up for the trip then? Have the Losal Alliance granted us access to maps of the region or is it still un explored for the most part." Maz asked.
"We have a partial map of the Expanse region which has a few named systems listed but not much. We'll be making continual scans as we travel and see if we can't add some more details." the Captain told him. "The system we're heading towards first is named Theta Rasii."
Maz looked over the data on his PADD and started to study the area and the systems. "Ahh vast expanse. Looking forward to it." He grinned.
OOC: There is a map on the site Wiki under "Star Charts > Khrelan Expanse" if you're interested.
"Mr. Chell," the Captain said, "I'm going to have to ask you to help a little to fill in some of the blanks in our database as we approach the system. I'd like for you to work with Sciences and collect as much data as possible through our sensors and get information not only on our target but the other words in the system as well."
LCDR Bishop, finally getting medically cleared to return to duty after being wounded in the Freighter Raid, steps onto the bridge, flexing his left shoulder and pectoral, still sore in a minor way from his shield and body armor taking three compressed disruptor bolts to his chest and upper shoulder. The burns and pain were healed over a short time. But had he not been wearing his gear, he would have been dead before he hit the deck.
He straightens up his uniform as he walks into the conference room. He took out his PADD from the Doctor. "Good morning everyone. My apologies Captain, I just got my medical clearance from the Doc 2 minutes ago," he says as he gives her the PADD from the Doctor.
Not speaking, she accepted the PADD and read it over before handing it to the XO while nodding, "Have a seat Mr. Bishop.. nice of you to join us..and.. next time.. duck.."
With a smile, she said "All right well, a few more housekeeping details and I'll release you to your posts to prepare for departure from SB900. First, I received word earlier today from BGen Mitchell from TF38 HQ that I've been officially promoted to the rank of Captain. Second, I'd like to formally congratulate Lt. JG Yarin on his promotion to Lieutenant JG as well as to the position of Chief Science Officer. Hopefully he won't decide to resign on us and run for it.. " she added with a note of light playful humor in her voice.
"Run away.. run far away." Miguel said with a chuckle in his voice as he played along with the Captain's humor. "On second thought that might not even work."
Not looking towards her Chief Engineer, none-the-less the Captain said "You think you're funny don't you Mr. Torres?" There was no ire in her voice, just a relaxing familiarity with her long-time shipmate and friend. "Also, we're due to receive a new Intell Officer sometime in the very near future before we leave SB900. I haven't yet met him but I received word that a Lt. AJ Taggart has been assigned to take Mr. Deveraux's post as he was reassigned. "
Gently smacking the conference table then with one hand, the Captain said "And on that note, that's all I have so unless anyone has anything else.. dismissed!"
As everyone filed out of the conference room Yarin stayed behind. "Captain if i may have a word with you in private?" he asked.
"Of course.." the Captain answered. As the others filed out, she asked "What is it Lieutenant?"
"I am not sure if your aware Captain but in a few days it will be my birthday, specifically my 25th birthday on this day my species goes through a biological process called the Narcon-Gleesh or final change and I request that I be allowed to either leave the ship or sequester myself in sickbay for the safety of the crew."
She almost rolled her eyes, resisting the urge by the skin of her teeth. "If you leave the ship you won't be able to rejoin us until we return from our current mission, we're going too far out. The choice is yours. Stay here in sickbay, or risk being reassigned by Starfleet while you wait for us to return and I do not have time table at this time for when that will be.."
"Thank you captain I believe I will remain on board that way I can at least be of some use until the Gleesh takes place. I will assist Lieutenant Chell with the data collection."
"Make certain that Dr. Sokolić is aware of your needs and has time to prepare a place in sickbay as necessary," the Captain told him.
"Yes Captain," Yarin said as he left the room.
