A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 62506.189 {Fri, 23 Nov 2384 14:09}
After the meeting / exam with Doctor Anderson, the Captain wasn't quite certain whether to be annoyed at having been tricked into swallowing a medical probe or laugh at the Doctor's ingenuity. She did however wonder just who had given the medical officer the warning about the Victory's Captain's somewhat fierce aversion to sickbay, medical officers and exams in general..
After a moment of mental debate as to whether or not she felt like reviewing the stack of personnel reports for new crew who had reported aboard prior to departure, or heading back out to the Bridge she rose, and exited the Ready Room and onto the Bridge. Crossing the bridge slowly, she made the rounds so to speak in order to make her own visual check of the status boards. Finally arriving at her place on the bridge, she paused a moment then walked back to get a cup of coffee from the replicator along the far wall and then finally returned to stand near the XO. "Word to the wise," she told him. "If the Doctor should show up and offer you a drink with a 'berry' in it.. beware. It's probably some sort of medical probe she's trying to trick you into swallowing.."
"Indeed?" He turned and looked at her. "That's down right sneaky and underhanded. Just what I'd expect from a Doctor. I'll make sure I refuse all refreshments she sends my way, 'berry' or otherwise. My question is how did she nab you? You must have had your guard down or did she sweet talk you in some way?"
"Lack of sleep must be effecting my judgement.." she replied. "I'm slipping.."
"You?" He raised an eyebrow. "Never ever Rhea. She must have been downright sneaky. You know how doctors are. Always trying to trip people up." Alec replied reassuring her.
She just grunted a little, her dislike of medical and being poked, prodded, sampled, tested and otherwise examined inside and out was no secret. "So what's our status?" she asked, shifting gears away from doctors and the reasons she didn't like them.. "Anything interesting I should know about?"
"All systems operating within their norms. In a word no. Completely routine, nothing out of the ordinary at all. Oh here's another word. Boring."
She nodded, "Well, until we reach the Expanse and start moving into unexplored territory I don't really expect much of note to happen. I missed lunch.. how about you? Feel like tagging along and keeping me company while I get something to eat?"
"What an odd coincidence, so did I." His voice giving nothing away as he continued. "Why Captain, it would be an honor to tag alongside you and even more so to keep you company." His face splitting into a radiant smile.
"Good.." was her only comment. "I have a few items of ship's business to discuss which we can take care of while we eat.." Motioning for him to accompany her, she walked towards the 'lift and depressed the control to call the device. After a moment, it opened and the Captain entered. "Deck Three," she spoke as he entered next to her. The computer chimed acknowledgement and then, the very moment the doors were closed cutting them off from view of the Bridge she reached one hand over, caught hold of his uniform jacket front and gave him a quick tug, pulling him towards her whereupon she wrapped her other arm around his neck and pulled him closer still for a kiss.
"Of course Captain. Nothing like a working lunch." He replied as he entered the lift beside her and waited for the doors to close. Ready to shower Rhea with attention but she beat him to the punch. Pulling him to her and wrapping an arm around his neck as she bent forward to kiss him. He reacted instantly. His arms reached for and brought her to him even as she was pulling him closer. His arms moved around her waist holding her gently but firmly in their embrace. His lips found hers and eagerly, kissed her.
For a long moment as the 'lift moved, the pair just stood like that in a firm embrace and then, as if in synch with one another they moved apart so that when the 'lift stopped and the doors opened, nothing was apparent other than the ship's command staff exiting together heading for the Captain's office to share a late lunch and discuss business.
The two of them had gotten so good at these stolen little moments they instinctively knew how long it took the lift to get Deck Three and how long they could kiss and then part and still look as if nothing had been going on. He stepped out a half step behind her and followed her towards her office.
Nearing the office door, she said "I think I'm going to order up a salad with some grilled chicken and fruit.. what would you like?" Kennit then asked as she entered her access code and then stepped inside.
Stepping behind her, he waited for the door to close, "More of this." As he placed a hand on her shoulder and turned her around. Once again his arms encircled her as he brought her close, "Lots more." As he stroked her cheek and brushed her hair with his hand.
"Is that so.." she answered with a little smile while at the same time leaning into his taller body and sliding her arms around his neck once more. "How much more?"
"As much as I can get Rhea. A lifetime if I can get it. If you're willing to put up with me that is."
She smiled at that, looking up into his eyes and said "A lifetime.. I think I can handle you.." She kissed him then, just a light brush of her lips against his then added, "Question is.. can you handle me that long?"
He looked deep into her eyes, all traces of joking gone. "Oh. There is nothing that would me more pleasure than to spend a lifetime with you. So yes, I can handle you that long."
She looked at him for a long moment, realizing that he was serious and not joking, his words were sincere and not just the playful banter which they'd passed back and forth for some time. "You're serious.." she said in a soft voice, her hand on the back of his neck. Stroking his neck with her thumb after another moment she said, "I love you.." softly before kissing him once again in answer.
"Completely serious." He answered. His eyes closed and his forehead touched hers as Rhea said the three magic words. All traces bantering gone. "I love you Rhea.Today, tomorrow and for eternity." As he gave her an answering kiss.
"I am hungry.." she told him after a moment. "Just now not sure what I'm hungry for.."
"I can relate to that." Alec answered. "Lets go with food for now and the rest can be dessert for later."
She smiled, "Such a tease.." she told him in a husky voice. "Lunch it is.. want a salad too or do you want something else?" she asked, pulling back to move towards the replicator.
"Not so, completely serious. I think I need more than a salad, I have to keep my strength up. Can't be passing out halfway through the main event. That would just be bad form."
She looked at him, one eyebrow arched as she shook her head and agreed, "That would be bad form indeed.. so then what do you want?" she asked again. "Anything you want.. just ask.."
"Hmmm....... "Not a salad. I know that and not a full meal." He paused as he thought, "A roast beef sandwich with Provolone cheese and a glass of tea. I think that should take care of my hunger until tonight."
She nodded, entering both orders then handed him his once the replicator had produced their meal. "I guess we should discuss a little ship's business.." she said as they sat down. "How are the new crew working out.. everyone getting settled aboard all right?"
"Thanks." As he took his plate from her, "As far as the newbies, they seem to be getting settled. Though the new CMO has a way about her."
Pouring some poppy seed dressing over her salad, when he said that she looked at him and answered, "She's definitely unorthodox.. and will never catch me with that berry in a drink trick again.."
He chuckled at her comment, "Have to give her credit that was good trick. Maybe we can return the favor in the future, You know? One good trick deserves another."
"Planning a prank war are we now?" she asked him.
"Sure. Why not? Keep everyone on their toes."
She rose from her seat, moving towards him and then straddled his lap to settle herself down on his legs with her arms around his neck. "On their toes huh.." Leaning over close, she nuzzled his neck and then said, "And who is going to keep you on your toes?"
He held her lightly, his arms around her waist. His eyes closed as Rhea nuzzled his neck. He only opened them when Rhea posed her question. Tilting his head he gazed up at her, his eyes twinkling with merriment. "Why Rhea, that would be you."
She smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder and allowing herself the simple luxury of feeling his arms around her.
He continued to hold her, would hold her as long as she would let him. No words were spoken none need be. Each knew how the other felt. Right now at this very minute there was no where else he wanted to be then with Rhea.
Finally she spoke, "I guess we should get back eating lunch and back to work before we're gone too long.."
He sighed mightily, "Now who is being a tease?" He bantered as he continued to hold her as she sat in his lap. "However I suppose you are right. We should eat. Can't have the crew wondering about us."
Moving from his lap, she returned to her own seat and started eating once more. "So, any suggestions for activities to put into motion to help prevent the crew from becoming a little bored with our current assignment? I'd prefer to keep personnel alert and focused rather than daydreaming.."
"Not as of yet but it should be sufficiently stimulating to keep the crew from falling asleep or daydreaming. You can be assured of that."
"I leave it to your capable hands to make arrangements for service drills, training exercises..what have you.." she told him, then took a bite of her salad and smiled a little at him as she ate.
"Why thank you Captain. I think I can safely say it will be entertaining if nothing else." Hunter replied with a grin as he took a bite out of his sandwich.
"Of that.. I have no doubt.." she replied.
