[Engineering]
Seated at the propulsion plant monitoring control panel, Lt. Raylen slowly flipped through the status boards on the console display, verifying that all was well with the ship's engines as well as the matter/antimatter mix..
Hearing footsteps behind her, she turned to see the CEO enter. She swiveled her chair towards him, leaning back a little and smiled as he approached. "Welcome back Commander.." she told him. "Have fun over there?"
"Not as much fun as I would have liked." he said with a huge smile on his face. "It.... it was like nothing I had ever seen before, or even heard of for that matter." he told her and then went on for the next few minutes trying to describe every detail of his observations.
While he was speaking, Sam was vaguely aware that she was smiling too.. unable to help it really .. he had that effect on her for some reason. "Now I'm jealous I think.." she said when he'd finished. "You get to have all the fun, I get to sit here and watch status boards.."
"Rank doth has its privileges.” He told her. “Besides such is the life of an engineer, we usually spend our time down here making sure that everything works as it should, and only once in a long while do we get the chance to go out there and see something really… special.” He told her.
"Next time I get to go.." she retorted though she smiled as she spoke. "I wish I could get a personal look at that ship now.. you've peaked my curiosity.."
"I'll consider it." he said in reference to her retort. "As for the ship, you never know we might get a second shot at it once Starfleet reads the report. They'll want a team to look it over, or even someone to tow her back to base." he told her. "If they decide to have an SCE team look at it they'll need a ship to guard them. If they want it towed we are the closest ship to it."
"One can hope..." she answered. "What did you have beamed over here?"
"A robot of some sort. Might even be what crewed that ship who knows. But there is hardly anything left of it. I'm hoping that I'll be able to access information from whatever might be left of it's brain." he told her.
"A robot? Like.. a robot robot?" she asked, aware she sounded somewhat corny but not quite able to help herself. "Wow... that's kind of cool..."
"As far as I could tell from my initial scans. It's like something from one of those old movies." he told her. "The alloy they're made of is like nothing I've ever seen. It looks almost organic in nature. Very similar to how a spider spins it's webs, instead of being forged. The circuitry looked... like something you'd see in a body. I can't wait to get a look at the robot to see if what's left of its circuitry is the same way." he told her.
When he was excited like this about something, his eyes lit up as did his entire being. It was contagious somewhat.. "When do we get started on this robot you found?" she asked.
"If we weren't currently at yellow alert I'd say we could go right now." he told her.
"Damn alerts..always at the most inconvenient times.." she answered. "So, since we can't go play with your robot, what else is there to do that's fun around here.. besides monitoring the warp core temperature that is.." she asked.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Same as any ship I'd gather. You have your rec deck, the gym, holodeck, and of course the lounge." he replied.
"The gym? You think the gym is fun?" she echoed.
"It can be. Get the blood pumping, some sweat pouring." he told her. "Good way to relieve some stress."
She gave a little shrug as she nodded, "Yeah..that's definitely one way to relieve some stress.." Sam answered.
"So what do you like to do for fun?" Miguel asked her.
"Me?" Sam shrugged. "Besides watch warp core temperature readings?" she asked. "Lots of things. Read, swim.. hiking when I'm able to get somewhere to actually take a hike.."
Before he could reply, the comm system chimed. "Kennit to Torres."
Torres looked up as he heard his name being called out by the Captain."Torres here, what can I do for you Captain?"
"The XO and I are on the way down to meet you.. I want to take a look at this robot you brought back aboard.. Where is it stored?"
Walking alongside Rhea, Alec waited to hear Miguel's answer. The sooner they knew where he had the robot sent they sooner they could figure out a course of action on it.
"Engineering Support Lab 1 on Deck 9." he replied immediately.
"We'll see you there .." the Captain answered.
