Mission:
A Whole New World, Part 2 - Durbatuluk
Location: Bridge
[Bridge]
After the Doctor had repaired the damage to her nose (though not much could be done to salvage the Captain's mood), Kennit paused long enough to go change to non-blood stained clothing and dispose of her soiled uniform into a recycle unit then returned to the Bridge. Upon stepping out of the 'lift, she walked towards the center chair and didn't say a word, just sat down, crossed her legs and scowled.
A lot.
After checking that the brawling ensigns were secured in the brig.Alec made his way back to the bridge. He was mildly surprised to see Rhea sitting in the center seat. Coming up alongside her, there was no evidence of her nose ever being broken at least no physical evidence but if the scowl on her face was any indication, Rhea was one angry and unhappy camper.
"Captain, the ensigns are both cooling their heels among other things in the brig." Then leaning closer he whispered, "How are you?"
"The two of them will both be brought up on Captain's Mast, charges of assault against one another and against a superior officer.." she stated. Then, in response to his question, she answered with a simple, "Fine." in a tone of voice that said she was anything but fine. She was in truth seethingly ticked off..
He nodded in agreement, "Of course as they should be." Then in a lower voice, "I know better. You are anything but fine. Why don't you go to your quarters and relax? Try to put this behind you." He suggested, trying to be helpful.
She shot him a look, shook her head. "My place is on the bridge. Were you aware there have been other incidents over the last few days? Dr. Anderson told me she's seen a rise in incidents resulting in injuries.. fights. Disagreements.. carelessness as a result of arguments.."
"Normally I'd agree with you but you were injured should just go and relax." He pressed then continued on, " I know of other incidents. I wasn't aware that Dr. Anderson was keeping a running tote board on them."
She went still as marble at that.. a dark glimmer of irate fire dancing in the depths of her eyes as she slowly turned and fixed her gaze on his face. "And you were going to share this information with me..when?"
He found he didn't like her tone or the look he saw in her eyes, he met her gaze head on, he had never been one to be cowed by mere looks. "I was going to inform you when I gave you the latest crew report." he shrugged his shoulders, "Unfortunately, you broke your nose and I couldn't." His tone matter of fact even cold.
How convenient for him.. the thought flashed through her mind. That she walked into a flying fist leaving the briefing room before he could bring up the surge in crew disputes. "I see.." was her only spoken response. After a moment, she said "I want a list of crew members involved in inappropriate squabbles on my desk by morning. Those who have commited these infractions will be written up."
He gave her a look at her comment, the sharp retort on his tongue died unspoken he refrained from saying anything other then saying, "As you wish, one thing however what do you classify as inappropriate squabbles?"
Looking at him for a moment, when she spoke she did so in a slow drawl, as if explaining.. "Fighting. Arguments that result in an injury. Failure to report for a duty shift on time. Injuries due to off-duty sports which got out of hand and broke down into a fight.."
Listening to Rhea, he was suddenly sorry he asked, "I get it." He replied then continued on, " If I was you I would allot myself a big chunk of time for reading...... you're going to need it."
The smile she gave him was positively icy as she answered "Oh no.. all I am interested in are the names. Every officer found in violation will be placed on report, and assigned double duty for a month. As First Officer it will be your responsibility to ensure that those crew placed on report fulfill their assigned punishments."
He stared at her as if she had grown another head, "You just want the names? That's just idiotic." He bluntly replied.
"Idiotic?" she repeated, the word sharply enunciated as her eyes darkened with rising ire. "I don't recall asking for your opinion on my orders.. Commander." she added.
Alec met her gaze unflinchingly, "You didn't." He admitted, "But as I am the First Officer and it's my job to present a different point of view or disagree when needed, I thought I would voice it."
Her expression blank, but her eyes blazing .. she replied "Very well XO. You've voiced your opinion. Your orders stand."
"Of course Captain, I'll carry out your idiotic orders and have the information you requested in the morning." His voice cold as space, yet his eyes registered an internal fire that would rate with the temperature of the sun.
She met his gaze without flinching, "I expect nothing less. Commander."
"And you'll receive nothing more...... Captain."
"Continue to display behavior bordering on insubordinate and you and I are going to have a serious discussion.. commander.." she responded in a soft, yet furious voice.
He was tempted to yawn at her as she talked, knowing his actions were upsetting her but not really caring. His head was pounding which in and of itself was odd as he never got headaches. Instead of the yawn he forced himself to reply, "A serious discussion? Sounds like a novel idea."
"I'm thrilled to know you approve.." she replied, eyes narrowed.
"It warms the cockles of my heart knowing you're thrilled." He answered coldly.
"I believe you have your orders Commander," she replied. "Is there any particular reason you have not departed to fulfill those orders?"
"Nothing other than this scintillating conversation we're currently having." He replied blandly.
"Then perhaps you should get up, and go do what you've been told to do..." she replied, her voice conveying considerable ire though her tone remained soft.
"Perhaps I should. Very well, I'll leave you to your sulking." His voice monotone and even.
"Are you still here?" she retorted with a slight sneer curling her lips.
He headed for his office where he could work on gathering the names for the sulking Captain. He turned back to her, a smile on his face that didn't reach his eyes, "Stupid busy work." he muttered.
If she was aware of his final grumbled complaint, the Captain gave no sign. Instead, ignored him as he stalked off heading towards his office.
A dull thud can be heard from Hunter's office, followed by low some muffled language. It's clear Alec is happy.
