Mission:
All this has happened before...
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current
Alec had left the bridge and hightailed it to Sickbay. Something was wrong. Something was wrong with Rhea. Worse she was keeping whatever it was from him. That bothered him greatly. Didn't she know she could tell him anything? He didn't like being on the outside looking in, especially when it was with someone he loved. He knew if anyone knew it would be Anderson the Victory's CMO. The woman was a bone fide P.I.A., but she was a hell of a CMO an had a sixth sense about her when it came to people hiding or keeping secrets.
He entered Sickbay in a whirlwind, his eyes scanning, looking for her and finally spotting her in her office, reviewing some PaDDs. Moving before anyone else could weasel some time with her. He rapped firmly on the door. "A moment of your time." He began without preamble. The look on his face was serious, no sign of mischievousness or humor in his eyes. He wanted answers and he wanted them yesterday.
Nicole looked up from her notes and mentally sighed. *Should have gone to my quarters immediately,* she thought, kicking herself. "Yes, Commander, what can I do for you?" she said, clearing her desk and sitting back in her chair.
Alec came further into the office, letting the door close behind him. He walked to one of the chairs and sat down. His eyes never leaving hers. "The Captain," he replied simply. Then thought further on it. "Something's wrong. Was wondering if you has an idea on what it might be." His tone indicated that he thought she might.
"Well unfortunately a glass of my best brandy didn't get her to talk this time," Nicole said. "What makes you think something's wrong?"
Alec gave her a look and sighed, "Doctor. I'm the XO of this ship. It's among my jobs to observe this crew, especially the Captain. I've known the Captain for a long time we have an excellent relationship, a close relationship, and I know something is bothering the Captain. She's being close minded and not talking things out as she has a want to do."
"She also has a stubborn streak that can make look easy-going," Nicole pointed out. "I'm the Chief Surgeon, I look for physical reasons for bad moods. But without her coming in for an examination, all I can suggest is she get more rest and get some fluids in her."
"She isn't dehydrated or tired Doctor. She's keeping something from me, keeping me at arm's length. She's being....distant," Alec countered. "So, you're saying you know of no reason for the Captain's behavior?" he asked putting her on the spot. "I would have thought you would have known I could and can keep a secret."
"I do know that," she said slowly. "That isn't the point." She sighed and sat back, crossing her legs. "If there was something bothering the Captain, I would not be at liberty to discuss it unless I felt it was an impairment to her ability to command. So, since I'm not saying anything, then either there's nothing impairing her, or I don't know anything. Either way, there's nothing we can discuss."
Alec gave gave an irritated look. "It's precisely the point. However I didn't come to argue with you. More likely you won't say. Alright Doctor. have it your way. I would have thought myself trustworthy. I hope, for both our sakes, you aren't lying to me."
"So do I," Nicole said. As he stood up she cleared her throat. "But, perhaps we should talk again in thirteen hours."
He stood to leave, "Thank you for your time Doctor." He turned for the door but stopped, her last statement was mysterious. Looking back over his shoulder he spoke, "Thirteen hours? Very well Doctor. We'll talk again in thirteen hours."
