Mission:
Nibiru
Location: Deck 6: Physics Lab
Lieutenant jg Camille Lévesque’s eyes stared at the monitor overlooking the laser apparatus she had assembled. She wore safety goggles over her eyeglasses, and a departmental blue lab coat over her uniform. She had been working on this experiment for three hours, oblivious to the time. But it was almost ready.
Walker was put on PPE. He wasn't going to interfere directly.
She heard the door open behind her. “Goggles!” she called back, gesturing in the general vicinity of the personal protective equipment.
He already has goggles and a smock on when she yelled, "Already there, Lieutenant." He kept his hands behind his back. He didn't touch anything. He did look to make sure maintenance and operations were done installing things.
“Un moment,” she said to the figure behind her. “I need this tuned just right. Et...voilà.” She turned away from the console and looked at her guest, her eyes first laying on his chest, given that the top of his head was a good foot and a half above her. She couldn’t help but make a startled squeak as she finally found his eyes.
Walker had features very similar to the Chalchaj 'qmey, in fact his his only human features were his hair and eyes. He had a rare combination of recessive traits found among his Celtic Ancestors, Tricolor Eyes and Brown hair with red tints that looked like dried blood. "I apologize for startling you. I am doing an onsite Department Check. I see Operations and Maintenance are done installing your primary equipment."
“Of course, sir,” Camille said, a bit flustered. “Sorry, sir. I know I should have expected you to come by sooner rather than later. I’m Lieutenant junior grade Camille Lévesque, Chief Science Officer. And yes, everything is installed perfectly. I’m just calibrating this apparatus for an experiment.”
Walker nodded, "I like to be pro active. Knowing my people, my departments, helps that. I like to do my due diligence. Before we get to that point, because Scientists have similarities of curiosity which makes them good scientists, I am not from Carraya IV and I am not Chalchaj'qmey. I do have all of all of the redundant Klingon Organs." He grinned.
Camille nodded. “I was wondering. There aren’t many people with your unique characteristics. I need to secure this apparatus, but when I’m done, I can give you the tour of our labs, discuss our capabilities and limitations? When we get to the main bio lab, if you’d consent, I’d love a blood sample. Hybrid species are a fascination and I’d like the opportunity to look at your cells up close.”
Walker nodded, "Proceed. "
Camille worked on the console to power down the laser and locked her workstation. Then she stood up tall and smiled at the First Officer. “This is our physics lab. Attached is astrometrics. Together these labs can conduct astrophysics, quantum, other types of particle physics work. If you’ll follow me please.” She took her lab coat and safety glasses, directing the XO to do the same, and guided him down the corridor to the next rooms.
“My office is here,” Camille pointed to a door, but then they walked into another. She showed him the chemistry, cybernetic, and Biosafety
Level 4 microbiology labs before ending in the exobiology lab. “This is where I do most of my work. My Assistant Chief is the virologist, to whom I defer on the micro lab.” She found a sterile hypospray. “Can you lift your sleeve, s’il-vous-plaît?”
Walker looked at her and followed her, "Oui Belle Madame." He took off the ppe and then his uniform top, the grey shirt underneath. He offered his arm. "Don't get too excited about my bllod." He grinned.
Camille grinned back, both at the comment and the compliment. “When it comes to interesting things to learn, I always get the exact right level of excited, Commander. Just...don’t try to corroborate that with our Chief Medical Officer.” She chuckled as she thought of Nicole trying to get her attention as she stared into a new journal article on a PADD. She tapped the hypo to Walker’s arm and withdrew a few millilitres of blood. “Wow! I’ve never actually seen this colour blood either. This will be fascinating. I’ll let you know what I learn!”
Walker grinned, "One of my ancestors went by the Callsign Renaissance Man. When you run my DNA through the computer for comparative analysis. Some of my ancestors were green blooded faeries that had pointed ears and fell from the sky in a fireball." He winked.
Camille giggled as she worked labelling the blood sample and storing it properly. “Commander, the things I’ve seen since joining the Victory crew...I might just believe that. Emphasis on *might*. But I think we’re going to get along just fine. If you need anything from my department, please let me know. I’m at your disposal, sir.”
He grinned, "If I need anything from Sciences, you will be the first to know." He listened to her, "From what we can piece together, a Vulcan ship crashed in Ireland. It was from their first space flight age. They took human wives and husbands, and tried to blend. Their children were apparently great Warriors. My family's DNA wasn't truly mapped until Dr McCoy and Dr Arras mapped it."
“That’s fascinating!” Camille exclaimed. “I’ll have to look up their research. I’ve read some of McCoy and Arras’s work before. Starfleet should have access, and my alma maters will if Starfleet doesn’t. If you’ll excuse me, sir, I should get back to that project in the physics lab. I’m trying to generate specific exotic particles with a high energy laser. It should be interesting, if time consuming. I can take my leave, or you’re welcome to watch the laser test fire. It is pretty cool. Um, sir.” She pushed her glasses up her nose.
Walker nodded, "I have to get to another meet and greet." He put his uniform back on. "You have a nice day."
"You too!" Camille smiled and waved as she saw the first officer out the door and headed back to the physics lab. He was nice. She had such little contact with the last XO, only one real meeting and never met him socially. She hoped things would be different with this guy.
