Mission:
Nibiru
Location: XO's Office
Walker was going over the staffing reports and duty rosters. He was missing one. He tapped his comm, "Walker to Logan." He kept looking while he was waiting a response.
Logan tapped his commbadge. "Lieutenant Logan. How can I help you, commander?"
Walker answered, "Can you come to my office for a moment?" He said this while looking for the specific padd in question. He hadn't had a chance to unpack his stuff into his office yet. He hated the clutter.
Logan replied, "On my way, sir." Zack checked his uniform in the mirror to make sure that it was clean and presentable. Then he left his quarters, headed to the turbolift, took it to the commander's deck, exited and walked to the command's office, where he rang the bell.
Walker was picking up totes, when the bell rang, "Enter." He found the operations report and schedule between the desk and tote. He moved back to his chair. "Have a seat, Lieutenant Logan."
"Thank you, sir." Logan sat on the chair.
Walker looked at him, "I had four reasons for calling you here. Now I only have three. I just found the Operations report and schedule, so that is off the list. Operations from the station wants to know when we are giving back their maintenance and engineering staff."
"I felt, sir, that our people could finish the final stages of getting the ship ready for departure, sir" Logan sat straight in the chair.
Walker looked, "I will send them back. It will make the station happy." He looked at the body language, "Breath. You aren't in trouble. I don't want to have to call a medical because you clinched to tight." He had the sense of humor of someone who spent way too much time in Security and Intelligence had.
Zack relaxed, a little. "Thank you sir. I've heard that when someone is called to the first officer's office, that it means that the person did something wrong and was in trouble."
Walker laughed, "In this case, no. I have been going to department heads and having them meet with me. I check on their department." He looked at him, "I spent a lot of time in trouble at the beginning of my career. I'm not the principal. I'm a guy who didn't know he was going to be assigned to this post. Per our first conversation. So, how is your department?"
Zack smiled. "Lieutenant Naroot is an excellent assistant. A lot of the operations staff is new, and I haven't had time to meet them yet, but I'm hoping to soon, sir."
Walker nodded, "I apologize for the nature of our first meeting. My orders were garbled due to subspace issues. It took a while to get a clean copy."
"No need to apologize sir. I understand problems sometimes develop."
Walker nodded, "Try being in the field and are told your orders will be sent at 1900 Federation Time and when you tune in to receive, you get Klingon Music."
Zack shook his head. "I hope I never have to face that situation, commander."
Walker grinned, "It turned out it was a code, but I didn't get the cipher for 12 hours. These things happen. It is the nature of service. Do you want me to wait a couple days before sending the Station crew back or just send them back at the end of their shift?"
"They can be sent back after their shift. If anything else needs repairing, my team and I can handle it, sir." Zack replied.
Walker nodded, "I have faith in the Victory team. They will be sent back."
"Thank you, commander. Is there anything else?" Zack asked.
Walker answered, "Not at this time. Have a nice day."
Zack stood up. "Thank you, sir. You also have a nice day." He turned and left the office.
Walker went back to work.
