Askimi

The Askimi are an elusive, yet dangerous race. Little is known of them as yet, their homeworld is unknown. No one has seen a member of the Askimi race, only their ships.

Askimi Warship Type 1
Askimi Warship Type 1

Length: 550 meters
Height: 105 meters
Mass: 3 million metric tons.

Number of interior levels: 18

HULL/ARMOR: 4 meters

Power systems: UNKNOWN
Propulsion Systems: UNKNOWN

The Type 1 Warship is a massive, dual-hulled circular shaped vessel with it's upper and lower sections mirrored. It's interior appears to be 18 levels, rather than decks with multiple large open spaces which appear to be hangers or machinery storage spaces of unknown purpose.

The control center of the massive vessel lies at the very center, where it is most protected from outside attack.

Configuration and Specification Information:

The typical configuration of the Askimi Type 1 Warship features two y-shaped hulls in tandem alignment, with a top and bottom hull.

Although the main offensive armament of this Type class are its missile launchers, the ship also possesses numerous point defense cannons. There are two massive primary hanger bays housed in the center upper arms of the top Y-hull which appear to have been used to house other, small ships of unknown type. Based on interior configuration and layout, a conservative estimate is that each hanger bay (if indeed that is what these large interior spaces were used for) held 200 small ships of a size comparative to the Valkryie fighters carreid by the Victory.

The lower Y-hull holds four smaller, secondary bays which also appear to have once housed smaller ships or cargo containers (perhaps both) of unknown type. Due to damage sustained, there is not enough data to make a realistic estimate of how many ships or cargo containers these four smaller bays could have contained.

Unknown Hybrid Life Form:
This unknown hybrid of machine and living tissue was found aboard the derelict Type 1 warship found in orbit around Theta Rasii. The hybrid unit was mummified by exposure to open space, and it's function and purpose remain unclear.

What was discovered is the mummified remains of the ship's hybrid and it's immersion tank. The hybrid's serve as the central computer inside the ship itself. They resemble a humanoid being which must remain inside an immersion tank in order to remain functional (alive). Hybrids do not have a completely humanoid body, but instead their bodies are a mixture - consisting of conduits and other connectors mated to, or in place of elements of their bodies. A Hybrid can be disconnected from the ship, but this is dangerous to it.

Hybrids should be considered a specially constructed living computer that manage the autonomous functions of the warship, including navigation, propulsion (especially faster-than-light) and climate control. The Hybrids are so integrated into the functionality of the ship's they are part of that they are the ship, for all practical purposes.

When functional (alive), the Hybrids almost continually speak in phrases that make little sense to anyone who overhears. The utterances appear to be a mixture of system status reports as well as observations of events in and around the ship that may not be describable in words.

A Hybrid's connectivity to its vessel provides it with a remarkable awareness of the surrounding space. They appear to experience a form of ecstasy, perhaps at an orgasmic level, when accomplishing certain tasks such as faster than light (FTL) jumps. Hybrids have a conscious state that can converse, if only briefly, with the ship's crew.

The Hybrids are similar to Frank Herbert's Guild Navigators from his Dune series, who, through a combination of technology and mental abilities, can guide spacecraft through space in an apparent-FTL process called "folding space." Like the Navigators, the Hybrids seem to be able to utilize precognition to a greater or lesser extent.
