Mission:
Refit and Reorganization
Location: Shuttle to the USS Victory
Timeline: Backpost
Aliyani sat on the shuttle, biting the nail of her pinky finger down to the quick. She was nervous—she was always nervous going into a new crew. Most times they always had their dynamics down, friendships were already built and she had to then find some way to interact with people who already had months to do so. She always felt a little out of place. She was accustomed to always feeling wanted. Her brothers always made sure she never once felt like an extra wheel—heck Aiyan and Kono would not have stood for it.
She chuckled.
“You said something, Lt?” the pilot called.
“No. I was just remember something fondly, that’s all,” she replied.
“Why are you sitting all the way back there? We’re the only two here...come keep me company—if you don’t mind, ma’am.”
Aliyani would never get used to that. She was no ma’am. Still she moved up to sit beside the pilot and peered out the glass at the vastness around them. “Lt. Aliyani Kalikona’i,” she introduced herself.
“Kalikuuna’ii?”
“No. Ka-lik-ona-ee,” she helped. “But that’s okay. I’ve had worse pronunciations.”
He chuckled. “Ka-lik-ona-ee,” he repeated. “I’m ensign Mason Starr. Its nice to meet you ma’am.”
“Ma’am makes me feel old. Call me Ali.”
“As you wish, Ali. Is this your new ship or are you returning home?”
“New ship. I don’t think I’ll get used to it. Once I get on there and people realize I’m the counselor, they’re going to run as if I cut the world’s stinkiest fart.”
Mason burst out laughing.
She smirked.
“You can’t be that bad,” he said.
“Trust me. I grew up with two brothers...it was either learn to keep up or die from suffocation!”
Mason merely laughed harder. “Well, there is something to be said about a woman who can out fart a man.”
“Something to wrinkle the nose?”
“Maybe,” he chuckled softly.
By then they were in range of the USS Victory. She allowed him to do his job and soon they were telling her to prepare to be transported. She smiled at Mason. “Thank you for a wonderful trip, Ensign. I don't know any other pilot who could keep me as entertained as you just did. I thoroughly enjoyed myself."
"I'm glad," he blushed softly."
"I hope to see you again?” Aliyani said.
“I hope so too. God Speed, Lt.”
She smiled at him and bowed her head, just as the lights of the transporter took her.
"Welcome to the USS Victory, Lt. Kalik-oonai. I trust your trip was well." The chief stepped forward with an extended hand.
She allowed him to assist her down and smiled. "Thank you. It was wonderful." She handed over her orders and waited until he validated them. Once that was over she accepted it back and proceeded toward the door. With a quick glance over her shoulders, she headed to find her quarters.
