Mission: A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: Shuttlebay

Maz sat at the console in one of the fighters he was working on getting updated, "Leave it to Starfleet to forget to update the firmware package before installing a new LCARS interface. Faster...our rear end this is faster. Two days! Two days we have been working on this straight. How are We suppose to work with this." He sighed as he talked to himself having been up past his normal shift time.

Nicole walked up to the side of the shuttle and knocked loudly. "All ashore!" she called.

Maz bonked his head on the bulkhead and made an oufff sound. "Ow." He turned his head as he leaned back to see who it was, "Who's there?" He rubbed his head.

"Doctor Anderson, your not-so-friendly medicine woman," Nicole said, coming around to the entry way. "Someone's late for his initial exam."

Maz looked at the computer. "Well according to the LCARS here, I haven't even been born. Hell none of us has." He kicked the console. "It is not 1493!" He shook his head then smiled as he spun in his chair to face the doctor. "Well doc, we're all yours so long as this shuttle does not start spitting food at us."

"We?" Nicole said, glancing around the cabin. "There's someone else here?" She eyed him warily. "Can I see them too?"

Cael extends his hand. "Pleasure to meet you Doctor, my name is Cael." His voice shifted to a slightly deeper tone. "And I am Maz." He tilted his head to show his Trill spots with a smile.

Nicole's brow furrowed. "Okay...I'll admit Trill symbiosis isn't exactly a specialty of mine, but I thought there was more of a blend between host and symbiont, rather than multiple personalities."

The two shrugged. "We happen to have had a different experience. One body, two minds. They did studies to see if anything went wrong, nothing became of it. We are as linked as any other set, just have two separate voices, opinions, ideas, and thoughts." He laughed lightly, "Hence why it is more confusing than others. "

"What happens when one of you wants to turn left and the other wants to turn right?" Nicole said, sitting down in the empty copilot's chair and pulling her tricorder from her bag.

Cael Maz took a seat in the pilots chair. "We tend to stand still for a moment while we decide or we figure out those steps ahead of time. I trust him, he trusts me," Cael speaking of course.

"Well, I suppose you don't really have a choice in that, do you?" Nicole said, scanning him and raising an eyebrow. "Isoboramine levels look normal, although I am reading some elevated functions in the symbiont. I suppose with a more conscious consciousness than normal, that would be expected." She adjusted her sensors and scanned again. "I wouldn't mind a chance to get the..erm..two of you on a biobed for a more thorough look at your bodies' relationship."

Cael nodded, "Lead the way, good doctor. Thus shuttle is going to take over a month of recoding and so long as Starfleet base techs are far behind, I might be able to get things taken care of."

"Well it's good you have a hobby," she said. "I'll have to schedule you some time tomorrow or maybe the day after. I've got quiet the chore getting my own house in order."

"When you need us, just come calling. We will be happy to make time for you, Doctor."

"Good to know," Nicole said. She closed her tricorder and gave them one more visual inspection. "One last question. If I tell Cael something, does Maz always hear it and vice versa?"

"Depends on the conversation. The synapses can be temporally disabled depending on the user. Takes a lot of pratice for me to do it but Maz can choose. He respects some of my privacy," Cael said.

Nicole nodded, thinking. "Thank you, that's helpful to know. For the time being, I've got what I need. I'll let you know when I've scheduled you for some time." She stood up and nodded to the shuttle. "Good luck. But then again, as I understand it, 1493 was a pretty good Earth year, depending on whose side you were on." She nodded goodbye and made her way out of the shuttle.

Maz shrugged with a half smile, "Depends on if its Earth year or Trill year." He waved as she left and went back to work. "Pretty receptive." Cael said to which Maz replied, "Focus on this shuttle. She will let you know when she wants to talk to you."
