Mission:
A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: USS Victory Sickbay
Timeline: 62505.613 Fri, 23 Nov 2384 09:06:49 GMT
It was an early morning for AJ and he took a look at the pad containing his schedule for the day, it was packed with a whole lot of nothing but two things that did stand out were a staff meeting and his arrival medical exam. This was the only part that AJ hated about fleet duties- every duty station required that he be poked, prodded, touched in strange places, and injected with vaccine upon vaccine.
Deciding to get it out of the way early, AJ made his way to the turbolift. Stepping in, he leaned on the rear bulkhead.
"Deck 5. Section Bravo."
The computer beeped in confirmation and began to shoot downward. Slowing to a stop, the doors slid open and AJ strode out, two gold clad Petty Officers stepped back to allow him to pass. Walking down the corridor, AJ noticed that it was practically deserted, with one or two people walking through, their footfalls echoing through the expanse of the deck. Having finally reached the doors to sickbay, AJ stepped in and looked around, he smiled slightly at the softly lit, stark white interior. There was only one patient in the place that was under a blanket.
Grabbing a passing Hospital Corpsman by the shoulder, AJ caused her to turn rapidly with an angry look upon her face.
"Hey, what the hell-" the Corpsman stopped speaking as soon as she saw the two pips upon AJ's collar.
"Sir, I-"
AJ held up his hand. "My mistake, Corpsman. Can you tell me where the CMO is?"
"She's here," a stern, throaty voice said quietly in his ear from behind, "coming up with a reason not to throw you out of my Sickbay." When he turned to face her, she had an eyebrow raised and a disapproving scowl on her face. "I don't appreciate my staff being man-handled like that."
She glanced at her medtech. "Carry on, Maggie," she said. The girl gulped and nodded, leaving quickly, and Nicole draped her hands behind her back. "Now, what can I do for you, Lieutenant?"
AJ held up his hands in a nonthreatening way- palms forward to show that he meant no harm.
"I didn't mean to upset your Corpsman. My scaring enlisted people is becoming a rather unfortunate habit since I got here. I'm just here for my arrival physical, ma'am."
Nicole looked him up and down and nodded over to a biobed. "All right, hop on," she said, grabbing a tricorder and flipping it open. "And who are you?"
"AJ Taggart, I'm the Chief Intel Officer aboard. What about you?"
"Nicole Anderson, Chief Medical Officer," she said. "Now, on the bed, lie down and brace yourself."
AJ flashed a sarcastic smile at the doctor, who was unbelievably forward and complied with her request. At least this one was pretty...
Nicole flipped her tricorder open and scanned slowly. "So Mister Taggart, you've been terrorizing the rest of the ship?"
AJ let out a sigh of faux surprise . "Me? Terrorize? Never!" he chuckled at this. "The only people unfortunate enough to experience my wrath are either rude enlisted or not looking where they happen to be going."
The room was silent except for the sound of the medical tricorder. "You finding anything interesting, Doctor?" AJ asked.
She made a show of tapping her tricorder and scanning him quickly, making the instrument produce some noise. "Nope," she said. "You, Mister Taggart, are completely boring." She transferred the readings to a padd. *Although those eyes look dangerous,* she couldn't help thinking. Blue eyes were almost unheard of on Rigel, making her stand out even more among her peers. Having seen them so rarely other than the mirror, she was doing her best not to stare.
She cleared her throat and put her tricorder away. "You seem to be fine, so unless there's anything you need to ask me, I would say you're fit to leave."
AJ could feel the Lieutenant's eyes on him as he sat up from the table. Turning to her, he came to his feet.
"Doc, you look like you want to ask me something. If that's true, now's the time," AJ said slyly.
Nicole blushed heavily, which on her made her look simply less pale. *Come on, coward,* a small part of her mind whispered. *Dinner, something.* She straightened up, looked him square in the eye and bravely chickened out. "Perhaps another time, if anything comes to mind," she said.
AJ shrugged as he started to walk away. "Well, it's your loss but the offer is still open. Cool?"
"Um...'cool,'" Nicole said, not really sure what just happened. For once, her sass wasn't rising to the fore. She was a hunter almost all the time, she hated not knowing how to pursue in these situations. "I suppose, my only question is, did you want to ask me anything? I get off shift at 1800. I mean, if you wanted to ask me anything...later..." She blinked and blushed, looking slightly less pale.
"Good day Lieutenant," she said.
AJ was nearly out the door when he stopped abruptly and turned. "My quarters, 2000 and come hungry because I like to cook." AJ said before he winked at the doctor and walked out the door.
