Mission:
A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: USS Victory
Timeline: Engineering Support Lab 1, Deck 9
{USS Victory, Corridor - Deck 9}
Turning the corner, ahead of them the Captain spotted both Lt. Cmdr. Torres and Lt. Raylen walking towards their common destination. "Mr. Torres.. Ms. Raylen.. right on time I see.." she called out, glancing towards the XO with a smile.
Alec added his own smile to the mix, "Hello you two we're about to go and pay a visit to the guest you brought back Miguel, want to come along?"
"We need him .. he's the one who knows the pass combo to access the lab.." the Captain answered with a smile. "I'd hate to set off security by hacking the door and letting us in.. I have a feeling Mr. Bishop would get a bit peeved by the alarms going off..
"Oh I wouldn't worry so much about Mr. Bishop." Miguel told her. "I have that lab outfitted with special security features." he said and a large smile formed on his face as he thought about the replicator that was programmed to shoot chilli sauce at anyone that didn't have the code to the now locked lab.
"Don't let him hear you dismiss him so easily.." Kennit quipped.
As the Captain and XO reached the Chief Engineer and his assistant, the Captain paused, cast a wary look at the CEO and said "You did have that thing checked for contaminants before you brought it aboard my ship.. yes?"
"Anything that our tricorders can pick up. I still had the transporter chief use full decon procedures when beaming it over." he told her.
"Good thinking. I'd hate to find out after the fact, we'd brought some virus back with us." Alec chipped in." He looked over at the Captain, "Shouldn't the CMO be here as well? I know what we beamed back maybe she can make a comparison between the two.
"That's a good idea.. give her a call and have her join us.." the Captain answered.
He gave a nod of appreciation as he tapped his combadge. "Hunter to Dr. Anderson, your presence is requested and required at the Engineering support lab, deck 9."
Miguel quickly entered the code into the panel and watched as the door opened. He then led the way in, mainly to make sure that everything had deactivated correctly. Watching the Captain or the XO get sprayed with the special sauce wouldn't have been funny... at least not at this particular moment.
"You rang?" Nicole said, walking through the doors, her hand replacing something in the breast pocket of her uniform, her little black bag held in the other hand. She was looking somewhat pale, and for her that was saying something, but she wasn't dragging her feet and she considered herself in decent enough condition. She'd already been making her way to the Captain's location to report in, and as she stepped up to them, her attention was diverted to the robot. "This our friend?" she said looking at Alec.
"I don't know if friend is the correct term but yes this is him." Alec said looking at the being they had brought back from the alien ship. Swinging his gaze back to the doctor, he noticed her pale complexion. "You alright?" His tone carrying a note of concern in it.
Nicole gave him a glance and nodded, offering a half smirk as comfort. "Yeah, just a bit fatigued, thanks," she said. She folded her arms and huffed. "Well, if it's made in the image of its creators, we can assume it's related to the corpse we found."
"It doesn't look like the mummified corpse that was in the tank .." the Captain pointed out. "That was.. more delicate and it was more biological than composite while this is mostly metal composites with internal biological's. the more I hear the more questions I think we end up with.."
While Alec was speaking to the Doctor, the Captain stepped a few paces to one side and contacted the Bridge. "Kennit to Bridge. Mr. Barnes, how are we doing? Anything unusual on the sensors?" She couldn't shake the feeling deep in her stomach that the small ship which had dropped away from the wreck and departed on an unknown course was not a good thing..
==Main Bridge==
Thomas was momentarily startled, hearing the captain's voice come over the comm. He had finally gathered enough confidence to sit in the captain's chair, having done so just seconds before the captain called. Truth be told, after an extended shift in the transporter room, his legs were simply fatigued and needed a little rest.
"Barnes here," he replied, glancing quickly at Lieutenants Volos and Daystrom, both of whom were still at work with their scans. "Nothing to report at the moment," he said. "Lieutenant Volos is still updating the star charts and Lieutenant Daystrom is still running some more scans of the area, including the alien ship."
"Thank you Mr. Barnes," the Captain answered. "We're going to be down here checking out the artifact brought back from the alien ship for a bit.. if you need anything give a shout.. Kennit out."
"Aye, captain." He looked over to Lieutenant Daystrom, then over to Lieutenant Volos, neither of whom acknowledged him outright. He shifted in the chair that did not belong to him and looked forward at the viewscreen. For now, all the bridge could do was to scan and wait.
"Looks like we've got... about a half hour before the bare-bones are finished, Chief." Alex said from his station, referring to the star charts.
"Thank you, lieutenant," Thomas replied, rising to his feet. The chair was comfortable. His lack of comfort came from his own inexperience. Straightening his posture and clasping his hands behind his back, he moved to stand in front of the viewscreen, gazing upon the alien ship. "Please advise if we need to move anywhere more convenient."
He was no engineer, but he could not help but wonder about the technical minds behind the abandoned vessel. His mind was filled with equal parts wonder and anxiety. "Let's run a short range scan. Make sure no one's watching."
"We should be fine here, the Victory's got some pretty powerful sensors. Plus," Volos added with a grin as he tapped on his console, "I'd love to turn them on that ship if we get time. I bet we could look at some residual decay rates to figure out how long it has been here and what direction it came from."
It wouldn't hurt to collect a final scan. "If you've got the time," Thomas replied. He kept his eyes fixated on the viewscreen, but kept his ears open for any updates from the bridge crew. He didn't expect anything. Perhaps all of the excitement had now passed.

She turned her attention then to the large robot-like artifact lying on a work table. "I don't think I've ever seen any thing remotely like this.." Kennit said. Leaning over to look into a breech in it's tarnished metal armor, she said "That looks more like mummified tissue caused by exposure to vacuum than it does mechanical components.."
Nicole immediately stepped around to stand next to the Captain and peer in. "Yes...it does," she said, pulling her tricorder out of her bag and scanning it quickly. "It's fused with the inorganic material," she said quietly.
"I know..." Miguel said with a huge grin on his face. He grabbed a tricorder from the work table. "The Chassis is similar to titanium, and yet it's also like nothing I've ever seen before."
"I have," Nicole said. "It's similar to what we found with that mummy. It's part of the inorganic material in that nutrient medium. I've got a scan running on it now. It's possible that vat we found was how these...cyborgs...were created."
"Created by who.. and for what purpose.." Kennit added. "This thing is heavily built with an armored exterior and.. this.." she said pointing towards a component inside one of the things 'arms'.. looks like it could be a weapon of some kind.."
Miguel's eyes went back to the tricorder as he scanned the arm that the Captain had lifted. He entered a few commands which gave the command to intensify the scan. "It appears as some sort of kinetic weapon. Back in the 21st century some of Earth's militaries equipped some of their more powerful weapon systems with them. However those were pretty much abandoned with the creation of the first lasers." Miguel said as he continued to scan the robot. "Maybe this guy was some sort of security droid." he surmised.
"I don't think this thing was created from a Terran perspective.." Kennit murmured as she moved to another position near the work table, eyes on the robot's form. After a moment, she spoke again, "When you're not actively working on this thing.. I want it under lock and key is that understood? Keep it secure at all times. I want to know what it weighs, what it's power source was.. and what the organic material inside it is..whether it really is built into or grown into the composite form or if it's some sort of contamination .."
The Captain shook her head, "However, I know none of those questions will be answered immediately. It's end of shift.. get some rest once this thing has been secured. We're all going to have busy days tomorrow... have a good evening.." she said as she turned to leave. "Commander Hunter, there are a few reports from the quartermaster to go over before the night is over. He says he needs your signature on some orders to 'fleet supply before they'll fill them.."
The CO and XO were still talking as they exited.. another day winding down as the night crew began to come on duty.
