Mission: A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: USS Victory

Feeling frustrated by the fact that there were more questions than answers about the strange derelict alien vessel discovered in orbit around Theta Rasii IV, the Captain was quite ready to call it an evening and retreat to her quarters for a few hours of down time while the Victory's crew (with the exception of the mid-watch personnel) slept.

Entering her quarters, she tossed her jacket across the back of a chair and then walked over to her desk to check for any messages from Starfleet which could not be ignored until the morning. Finding nothing of urgent priority awaiting her attention, she then opened the desk drawer and removed a second neat leather case identical to the one she'd slid over the desk to Lt. Daystrom earlier that day. Daystrom wasn't the only officer on board Victory whose promotion had been approved.

She just wanted to surprise the recipient in her own way..

Hunter stopped by his quarters and took a quick shower, being on the alien ship had made him feel scummy. Once done, he put on a clean uniform and called the bridge to make sure there were no problems. Satisfied that the ship would hold together until morning, he headed for a certain someone's quarters. Reaching them, he pressed the chime and awaited entrance.

After a moment the door opened to allow him entrance, inside the Captain's quarters were dim, lit by candles scattered about.

Blinking in the dim light, Alec gave a quick look around. "Forget to pay the power bill..... again Rhea?" His tone teasing as he waited for his eyes to become accustomed to the dim light. Finally after several agonizing seconds he began to Creep through her quarters as if he was on a black ops mission, all an effort to uncover her hiding place. Though he liked the romantic atmosphere the candles gave her quarters. He made a mental note to tell Rhea ...... once he found her.

She was sitting on the couch, wearing a nightgown and matching robe made of raw silk material in a shade of green so dark it was very nearly black. "Maybe I just wanted a change of pace.." she answered.

He stopped short and looked at her in the dim light, she was the picture of feminine beauty as she sat on the couch looking back at him. "Well, that's certainly your prerogative both as a woman and captain." He replied as he moved closer to her. "Might I inquire what brought up this desire for a change of pace? Not that I don't like it. I do. Just curious."

Standing up, she walked over to him and slowly draped her arms around his neck. "What? I can't feel like celebrating a little once in a while?"

His arms came up and around her, encircling her as she spoke. Drawing her even closer, "Of course you can, I was just wondering what it is you're celebrating, especially if you're going to dress like this. For the record I like it."

Sliding her hand down along his chest she just smiled at him as he drew her closer. "I have a lot of things to celebrate.. My ship is out of that boring drydock, we're back on active duty instead of sitting around trying not to get fat.." She paused, fingers brushing over his collar as she said "And then there's you.. Commander.."

He nodded, not registering her word commander, "All good reasons to celebrate, that drydock was boring, although anything not being out in space is boring.Though you'll never get fat, you are all over this ship. As for me. You know how I feel about you. You won't be getting rid of me. I'm in this for the long haul." His hands lightly resting on her waist.

In response, she lifted up onto her tip toes and pressed her lips to his. Kissing him for a long moment, at last she asked in a soft breathless voice, "What makes you think I want to get rid of you Commander?"

He continued to hold her even as the kiss was broken. His arms embracing her, feeling her soft skin through the fabric of her gown. "Well, I um." He fumbled, "Just in case you were thinking about it. I'm not leaving you. However I'm glad to hear you don't want to get rid of me. Now the next question is why are you being so formal? You've called me Commander twice. It's me Alec. Remember?"

She just smiled at him, "I know who you are.. Commander Alec Hunter, Executive Officer of the U.S.S. Victory." As she spoke, she nodded over towards the table, where an open case with new rank pips was sitting quietly, by itself on the polished wood.

His gaze followed hers until it finally came to rest on the small open case containing Commander pips rested. He looked back at Rhea and then back to the case. He was speechless in surprise, shock and the preparation Rhea had put into surprising him. God! How he loved her. One hand fell from her waist and interlaced with hers. Then without warning, he pulled her forward and kissed her passionately. Rhea was more than just his captain, she was his best friend, confidant and lover.

After several seconds he whispered into her ear, "How long have you known?" Before he kissed her again.

"Not too long.. the approval and confirmation came through earlier today I just didn't read the message because someone," she said with a slight emphasis on the word 'someone' was on an alien wreck and I was a bit preoccupied.."

He nodded at her explanation. "I see. I hope you give this 'someone' a severe tongue lashing. Making you wait on reading an important message like this. That's downright inconsiderate." He finished up, his voice serious, though he knew Rhea was referring to him before his face split into a wide smile.

She sighed a little, "Oh I think he's aware of just how the whole situation made me feel." Cocking her head a little to the left, she toyed with the collar of his uniform a bit more, fingertips just brushing against the warm skin of his neck. "You are however.. not . quite in proper uniform." Taking in a deep breath, she leaned close and whispered against his neck "What ever should I do about that?"

"Well, it's good to know he isn't an inconsiderate lout. I hope he makes up for it. Perhaps a nice romantic dinner. A private evening or a romantic getaway." Hunter bantered as Rhea brushed his neck, toyed with his collar and then leaned closed and whispered. "I think that as the Captain any action you take would be appropriate." He answered, "Especially seeing as I am not in the proper uniform."

"Any action.." she echoed. "Well I rather think that we should consider getting you out of that improper uniform don't you agree?" she told him.

"I do agree and I call that excellent command thinking. You've stated your objective, it's clear and concise. No gray areas. No wonder your the Captain. Thinking like that and you'll soon be an admiral."

"God forbid.." was her immediate reply. "Spending all day at a desk or in meetings. Boring."

He laughed at her comment, while others would be happy to accept a promotion to admiral. Rhea marched to a different beat. She was independent. She was an explorer. Commanding a starship was where she belonged. It was her first, best destiny. "Don't worry Rhea, you can always say no."

She let out a soft grumble. "So busy laughing he's not interested in the champagne in the other room.. " she said as she drew back and began to walk towards the other room in question. "Or anything else possibly.." she added with a glance back over her shoulder.

He heard her comment and he immediately stopped, sobered up. "What's that about champagne in the other room?" He hurried after her " And as far as anything. You are wrong Rhea, I can think of something and someone I'm definitely interested in. But first lets have some of that champagne."

Nodding towards where the bottle rested in a bucket of ice to keep it cool, as she sat down on the bed and leaned back she answered, "Open it up and pour us both a glass Commander.."

"As you wish Captain." Alec replied as he lifted the bottle from the ice bucket and popped it's cork. Careful not to spill any, he filled one glass and then another. Handing Rhea a glass, he smiled over his. Enjoying the view of the beautiful woman before him. "A toast Captain." He proposed.

Accepting the glass from him, she held it in one hand while leaning back against the bed pillows. "A toast to the new Commander.. a promotion long overdue.." she told him.

His smile was radiant at her words. He took a sip of the champagne, "Ohhhhhhhhhh!" He exclaimed, "I am impressed, this is the really good stuff. From the Picard vineyards?" As he took another sip. "I'd like to propose a toast as well Captain. If you don't mind or even if you do." The last said with a grin. As he took in the view before him of the woman he loved.

Cocking her head to one side, she waited for him to continue without speaking as she sipped from her glass.

Seeing he had her attention, He raised his glass. "To Captain Rhea Kennit, the best of the best. In all fields involving Starfleet and matters of the heart."

That made her smile, and she took a sip from her glass in sync with him then said "So.. you plan to just stand there all night or are you going to join me over here?"

"I plan on joining you." He replied as he picked up the bottle and moved to recline next to her. He kissed her cheek. "I like the relaxed look, you should do it more often." He added as he refilled both their glasses.

She responded by shifting closer to lean lightly against his side. "Relaxed look huh..."

After handing Rhea back her glass, he slipped his arm around her feeling the warmth of her skin through the fabric of her gown. "Um yeah, I mean it makes you look so soft and cuddly not to mention even sexier than normal."

Setting her glass down, she curled herself up closer to him. "Soft and cuddly wasn't quite the look I was going for.." she told him with a smile.

He placed his glass down and wrapped both arms around her, holding her close, wanting to keep her close, savoring the moment. His head bent down so he could whisper in her ear. "It's not?" He was confused. Had he blown this special moment by saying the wrong thing? Seeds of dread began to sprout. "Um, what look were you going for?"

In response, she moved closer still and pressed a single, soft kiss to his lips.

He kissed her back, relieved he hadn't screwed up too badly. His hand found her cheek and he softly caressed it. He kissed her cheek and caught a whiff of her perfume the kind he liked so much even as her hair tickled his nose.

Smiling playfully, she said "Much better..."

"Don't you know it." He answered in the same playful mood. "In fact. It's much, much better."
