Rule 16

347 words; about a 2 minute read
Mission:
All this has happened before...
Location: Cassandra's Office
Cassandra mentally ticked off three seconds after the Captain had left before folding her arms and saying "computer, seal the doors." A complying beep from the computer signaled she was secure and she moved quickly to her desk.
"Computer," she said, then stopped. What was she going to do? Go traipsing around looking for something and setting off every alarm that was probably laid throughout the computer?
"Standing by," the computer said, prodding her.
She might have been looking for nothing, but something in the back of her mind said 'be prepared.' She had simply accepted the assignment here without doing due diligence and now she was regretting it. She glanced up to one of the objects mounted on her wall. It was a hammer and chisel that were similar to a set used by Michelangelo. "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free," she said to herself. Suddenly, realized what she needed to do: she needed to find out who she was serving with.
"Computer," she said, "transfer complete files for every crew member to my main PADD. All fleet postings, transfer requests and orders, public mission orders, et cetera."
"Requested function will take twenty minutes," the computer said.
"Just enough time," Cass said, grabbing the padd, unsealing her doors and heading down to the cargo bay. That would give her enough time to get some materials moved and get her garden growing.
Getting to the bay and clearing it out had been the easy part, thanks to a few of her parlor tricks. By the time the 20 minutes were up, the bay was building itself rather efficiently and her PADD beeped insistently. She looked at the padd, stepping side as a box of seedlings moved past her and looked over the information. There was a lot to sift through. She looked at the quickly forming bay and realized she'd have to divide her attention. *Or get help,* she thought.
She started pouring through the information, getting to re-know her new crewmates as a garden sprang up around her.
