Mission: Dīvide et Impera ~ Chapter One: Sending Out An S.O.S
Location: USS Victory

USS Victory

The Captain’s overall mood toward keeping her crew occupied through training to prevent boredom from setting in did not just extend to engineering and damage control personnel. Oh no..

The Victory was fitted with holographic emitters throughout the ship to allow the EMH to function where ever the medical hologram was needed. While it was not standard practice to utilize holographic technology during a damage control drill... It wasn’t hard to program a holographic simulation of Hirogen hunters attacking the ship in a raid. The holographic weapons carried by the invading Hirogen were programmed to quite effectively send a jolt of energy though any defending personnel struck by the energy beam, the unfortunate security or marine officer would receive a nasty jolt and then be immediately beamed from wherever he or she was located when ‘shot’ to Sickbay, effectively now a casualty of the hostile Hirogen raid.

The first two runs of the drill program had resulted in the Hirogen defeating the Victory’s defending crew resoundingly. Which meant that the drill was being increased in difficulty with each run. In an actual raid, being shot would do a hell of a lot more than sting and get you beamed to Sickbay..

And so it was... Round 3 of the Hirogen Raid Drill was initiated at 0214 in the ship’s night...

“General Quarters, General Quarters! All hands man your battle stations. The flow of traffic is up and forward on the starboard side, down and aft on the port side. Set material Condition 1 throughout the ship. This is a drill. Intruders detected on Deck 5, Deck 6, and Deck 9. Internal sensors indicate 22 Hirogen hunters .. hostiles are to be stopped ..use of lethal measures is authorized.”

The consoles on the command chair lit up and Penny, who had the joy of commanding the night shift, immediately began relaying calls to departments. "Security to Decks 5, 6 and 9. All security personnel report for duty. Sickbay prepare to receive wounded!" She turned and pointed at the turbolift doors, while looking at the security man on duty. "Secure the bridge." She routed the command consoles to the helm and monitored them along with her ops boards.

All weapons used by defending personnel would of course be training units, damage and actions caused by the training weapons would be simulated for maximum effect by the holographic systems controlling the drill.

Caught off guard while returning hurriedly to their duty stations from their ‘lunch’ break while on the mid-watch, Crewman Simpson, Petty Officer 2nd Class Skinner, and Ensign Flanders became the first ‘casualties’ of the drill when they turned the corner and found themselves face to holographic face with four towering Hunters. Unarmed, the trio were quite screwed.

In sickbay, the humm of the transporter heralded their arrival. All three collapsed to the deck, nerves and muscles still jangling from the shock administered by the Hunters holographic weapons. For his part, Simpson just flopped back to the deck, moderately thankful he hadn’t pissed himself. Skinner landed on his rump, groaning with pained disgust. And last but not least, Flanders arrived with a crash and a thud, limbs tangled he expressed his thoughts loudly. “Mother fucker!!! These damn drills are a bitch!!”

"We're not enjoying them either," Doctor N'ak'an said, his reedy voice even tighter with his displeasure as he helped haul them onto biobeds, his blue antennae quivering in annoyance.

From her base of operations on the ship, SCPO Summers logged in. "Summers here, ready and up!" Shaking her head in an ' What am I doing *here* question, Summers grabbed a phaser and went hunting, the blood racing through her.

Down on Deck 6, a stray shot from one of the defending first responders had knocked it the power relay to the lights, leaving the entire deck shrouded in darkness (OOC note: again the damage is part of the drill, not actual damage to any ship systems will take place. It is all controlled by the drill program). Crewman Szyslak was hunkered down at the junction of the main corridor with a narrow side passage, pinned down by the Hunters and unable to do more than return fire and hope for a break to allow him to move to a mor defensible position. Hearing the comm message from the Romulan who was still aboard, he glanced at the dark shadows down the corridor where he could hear the gruff alien voices of the Hunters, and see then glow of their weapons when they fired and said to no one in particular, “oh good...she’s ready and up ..”

His distracted bumping cost him, he was a tad too slow to duck back down and in a sudden searing blaze of sharp stinging through his nerves..found himself in sickbay with a growing complement of personnel for whom the drill was now over.

As he was helped to his feet, groaning, Nurse Harper gritted her teeth. "Just take it easy," she said. "Good news is, you can sleep in tomorrow."

Arashi had some of his security team load weapons and prepared them to battle the invaders. "We go slow and methodically clear areas. Do not stray from one another, spread out into fire teams and be prepared for anything." Arashi said. "May Bishamonten guide us and help us punish these interlopers. Set your phasers to kill and move out!" Arashi had to admit to himself that he still wasn't feeling a hundred percent but he was going to give it his all. "Computer, give me the location of the hostiles that are close relative to my position." He said after a few moments of silence.

“Hostiles are located in Sector 8-G531.” the Victory’s ever helpful computer system told him.

"All right. Alpha and Beta team clear and secure this location. Delta and Gamma team you are with me. The other security teams we will find on the way. Regular reports until we are done fighting. Move out quick and silent." Arashi said, wondering when the enemy would show up. He headed to sector 8-G531 and started to clear rooms. Clearing one, he heard his security team call out. "Clear left." one officer said quietly. "Clear right. Coming out." another responded just as quietly and he scanned the area outside alertly. "All right we move." Arashi said and continued to clear rooms.

CMO’s Quarters

Nicole's eyes flew open as the alarms went off. "Oh for Providence sake," she said, throwing back her covers. She growled and swung her legs out of bed and jumped up, grabbing a uniform and throwing it on quickly. She grabbed a side arm and left her quarters, making her way to Sickbay to help with the "wounded."

Deck 8

Just as Delta team cleared the last room in their assigned section of the deck, four Hirogen Hunters walked out of the lift at the end of the passageway. Shooting prey, they attacked! Instantly the corridor began to fill with a thick haze created by the rain of energy beams fired from the Hunters weapons!

"Contact, by the turbolift! OPEN FIRE!" Arashi said as one of his men went down and was teleported to the infirmary. The rest aime their phasers and pulled the triggers filling the room with bright flashes of light. "Sir, we can't advance. Taking cover and returning fire!" Another teammember said. This was getting chaotic but Arashi remained calm. He raised his rifle and aimed calmly at a Hirogen's head and pulled the trigger of his phaser rifle when the crosshairs rested on the Hirogen's head.

One Hirogen down.

Three more to go!

The three remaining Hunters moved swiftly, taking cover by blasting open doorways along the corridor and taking refuge inside. They did not however, slow their attack. One leaned out long enough to throw a stun grenade toward the Starfleet crew before ducking back into the empty research library to await the detonation.

Arashi grabbed the stun grenade and threw it back at the one who threw it at him. Making sure that it bounced into the room, he retreated and covered his eyes. Drill or not he would be damned if he let the Hirogen win.

The grenade went off in the air ride at the threshold of the open hatch. The resulting blast from the stun energy ripples out in all directions locking out the remaining lights and sending several of the defending crewmen sprawling, stunned to the deck. SeverL moments passed, a few of the stunned crewmen were trying to rise -shaking their heads when the first Hirogen Hunter appeared in the hatch. Shaking his head, the towering alien raised his weapon and fired..

Arashi shook his head, clearing the cobwebs from the blast of the grenade. As he watched the Hirogen fire on some of his crewmates, Alpha and Beta teams came up firing at the Hirogen that "killed" their teammates. The rest of Arashi's team, about 3 in total joined in on the shooting. "Sounds like you got a Hirogen problem." One of the Alpha team members said. "Ah stow it, ensign." He said and stood up. "All right, you targs! Time to get rid of the last two!" He picked up his phaser rifle and got ready to attack the remaining Hirogen. They were dug in tighter than an Alabama tick so he decided that going after them wasn't a good idea.

Marine HQ

The Major stood watching multiple screens, hands clasped behind his back. He looked on intently observing the ships tactical teams in action. Two of his Marines stood guard rifles in hand showing no emotion or excitement despite the action taking place throughout the ship. Staff Sergeant Maly stood at the Major's side taking in the action as well.

"They seem to be doing well Major."

"Yes the Ensign has his men well prepared, his orders have been crisp and decisive, adapting on the fly to the situation. He's loosing men, but dispelling the intruders is all that matters."

"Indeed, I'm sure the Captain will be pleased with the results. It's a shame we aren't out there in the fray."

"We weren't assigned here to handle Security & Tactical matters, we are a specialized unit Staff Sergeant. We get involved when required, not for thrills."

"Of course Major."

Bridge, Captain’s Ready Room

In the Ready Room, the Captain was leaning against Commander Hunter’s back, seated behind him and resting against him, peering over his shoulder as they monitored the current drill progress. It was clear that the defending response was going to ultimately prove successful in their action, but.. “They’re still taking longer than I want to see in responding to the event.” she said, chin resting on Alec’s shoulder. “I want to see a faster, more efficient response to emergency situations..”

Alec nodded as Rhea gave her opinion as the drill progressed. Turning he gave her a sideways glance,"Rhea, be fair. It's not everyday Hirogen hunters are stalking the corridors of the ship. They are doing remarkably well improvising on the fly. Though I too would like to see a faster response time. I suppose we could assign roving patrols to act as a first response until reinforcements can arrive be they security or marines."

She nodded, leaned over to kiss his cheek and said, “That’s actually an excellent idea. A roving security patrol, two teams active at all times in the event of a hostile incursion. I like it.. we will get it set up and make it official over the next day or two. Excellent idea....”

She smiled, then yawned. “It’s after 0300. I think with the drill done, it’s time to go back to bed and catch a little sleep.. the better to stir up more mischief tomorrow.”

Together, they left the Ready Room and after a brief check in with the night shift duty officer.. departed the bridge.
