Mission:
Plaga Navis
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Intel Office
Several hours after New Crew Part 1:
The ships comm system chimed to indicate an incoming message for Lt. T'Mira. The message was to the point. The Captain was ready to speak to her now, and she should report to the Captain's Ready Room.
T'Mira had set up her office. She had little by way of persona things In her office. Mostly she'd unpacked, data files, strategy notes, and a replica of her prized possession. The real item was n her quarters but this copy of a Kirk era tricorder was for her office, a memory of a mission to the past where she'd let her guard down and, for a brief time, allowed her inner fan girl to jump out. It has been early on in her time with section when a temporal jump was necessary. She'd found herself in the past and against protocol, to satisfy her own desire, she'd come back with a few...souvenirs.
She's been in the middle of reading the mission brief when the message had come. Sighing she rose and headed to the ready room. She stood outside giving her uniform one more straighten and then rang the chime.
When she had first risen after being treated by the Doctor, with the headache still a lingering throb in the back of her skull, the Captain’s first plan had been to seek out Nathan, and confront him over the information she now had at hand. However, a waiting message caught her attention, to her great disgust once again someone in Starfleet had sent an Intell agent to her ship. After having driven off one agent after another, one would think that the personnel management office would take the hint and stop putting their little spies on her ship. She answered to a different command structure entirely...
Of course the agent would arrive while the XO was off-ship, which mean the Captain would have to deal with the new arrival herself rather than push the officer off onto her XO for him to deal with.
Damn and double damn.
Staring at the stars visible through the viewport for a long moment, Kennit muttered a curse under her breath. Crossing to her desk, she contacted a Yeoman and instructed the officer to get into contact with the. Welty arrived Intell agent, a Lieutenant T’Mira... and have her report to the Ready Room.
Ordering a mug of coffee, the Captain sat down at her desk to wait for Lt. T’Mira to arrive. When the door chimed some minutes later, she called out “Enter.”
T'Mira stifled a deep breath and walked inside hands clasped behind her back. She then stood at attention giving the proper salute. "Captain, Lieutenant T'Mira reporting for duty." She stood at attention until the captain decided to release her.
“At ease.” the Captain said, her voice soft yet with a distinct burr to the tone. After a moment she said without looking at the new arrival, “I was not aware Starfleet was sending another intelligence officer to us.”
"They were not planning on doing so. I was reviewing ships and came across the Victory. I requested the transfer in noting that the Victory has had several agents who have rotated through. It was a logical deduction that you could use stability. I could use stability as well. I applied and Starfleet granted my transfer orders." She have an uncharacteristic shrug. "I deduced, quite logically of course, that I could use their guilt at what happened some years back to get the assignment I wanted. I shall venture to feel ashamed for using such a ploy at a later time...I will schedule it in."
“Misperceptions of guilt or innocence had nothing to do with it.” The Captain retorted, then said “I have no need of an Intelligence Officer. The fact that no message was sent to advise me of your arrival is suspect.”
She tilted her head. "Nonetheless I am here to assist in any way that I can." She thought a moment. "As to the message I am uncertain as to why. I do have a theory however perhaps this is one of those times where my theories are best left un-said."
Kennit's dark eyes didn't waver. "Oh I am already well aware of why you're here. The same reason the others who have come and gone were sent out. I was not informed this time, but that doesn't change anything."
She tilted her head and studied the captain. "Captain I have been known to misinterpret languages and I am not good at...how you say reading between the lines. I would much prefer if you stated things outright. Why do you believe I am here?"
The Captain just smiled. "Because someone in Starfleet Command sent you here."
"That is a false conclusion. I am here because I requested this posting and because Starfleet felt guilty for my injuries during a mission that was not of my choosing they granted it." She tilted her head to the side. "Captain, permission to ask a question."
“I doubt denying it will do any good..” Kennit answered. “ Go ahead.”
"Why are you so paranoid?"
The Captain just gave a small shrug of her shoulder, “Experience.”
"Perhaps." She'd had had her own experiences with Command. "Nevertheless, I understand your apprehension with Starfleet Command and their orders. They can be....quite illogical. I am only here to assist." Running away is also a motivation, starting a new life... she thought but she didn't say that out loud. "I am here for a new start. As I said I requested this posting despite command's insistence that I pick another ship."
Hearing this, the Captain studied the Vulcan for a moment then said only, “in which case all that is left to say is ‘be careful what you wish for, lest it come true’."
She gave a nod. She had a burning question to ask....unfortunately the filter that would have prevented her from doing so was not there. "Captain...What do you mean by wish. I have not made a wish...should I? Is there a significance in making a wish?" Her guard slipped and a genuine curiosity overtook her.
The Captain didn’t answer for a moment, then with a slow smile crossing her face she walked closer to the Vulcan. When she was just twolqces away, she stopped. In a soft, yet powerful voice she answered “It is an old Earth saying, one still just as relevant now as it was then. Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true. It means at its heart, if you get things that you desire, the may be unforeseen and unpleasant consequences.”
"Ah...I see. My request for a transfer here. You are saying that since I had wanted the transfer and received it, it is like a desire, my desire to serve aboard the ship and then since I got the posting it might have unpleasant consequences." She tilted her head to the side. "Fascinating. I believe I have already encountered those captain and I did survive...now I just must make sure I stay out of sickbay to avoid said unpleasant consequences."
For some reason that statement amused the Captain. All she said was, “It worth a try for certain. If that’s it.. you’re dismissed.”
She gave a small bow. "Very well. Thank you for your audience." She turned and headed out.
