590 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: We Will Take Care of You
Location: Walker's Quarters
Timeline: After Triggered

Walker came down the corridor like a man on a mission. He came into his quarters fast and hard. He went right for the wall with his traditional weapons on it. He touch each one. He was trying to determine which one to use. He touched the Hvalr Club. He touch the Langseax and grinned.

Penelope rushed down the corridor to Walker's quarters and didn't even bother with the chime. She didn't know how they'd wound up in this situation, but she knew something had gone horribly wrong. She keyed in a medical override and as the doors opened, she saw Walker reaching for a weapon off his wall. "Cullen!" she shouted, getting his attention and stepping inside his quarters, letting the doors seal behind her. "What are you doing?"

Walker answered, "He smelled like you. He challenged me. I need to finish dealing with him." The langseax was a long knife, almost a short sort. This one was special made by hull Engineers. It was made from the same metals as a ship hull, and sharpened by laser. "He is subdued. I want to blood eagle him."

"And I want a new surfboard, but maybe we put aside what we want for the greater good, hm?" Penelope said, walking closer. She gave him a small smile and lowered the seal of her uniform top. "What's that human saying? Make love, not war?" She couldn't understand why she was even having this conversation. He shouldn't be able to stand, let alone lift a weapon. *Reports of his physiology were clearly incorrect,* she mused. It made her wonder what other reports could be so incorrect.

Walker walked away from his ritual weapons, "I don't like it that he smells like you." He leaned down and kissed her. Reports on his physiology weren't far off. He was far from normal. His eyes were nearly single colored amber, instead of tri-colored as usual. He was basically high as hell off of her.

She kissed him back, delivering a larger dose of sedative than she had previously. As she steered him back to bed, she began refining their calculations, based on their new observations. It was going to take some work, but she was now confident she could keep him subdued. The last thing they needed was another accident to ruin their plans.

Like before, he went several rounds. "I think I'm in love with you." He pulled her hair and kissed her neck. "Be my wife? Be the mother of my future children?" He continued to kiss her neck. Then he fell asleep on her.

Penelope sighed and unceremoniously shoved him off of her and onto the other side of his bed. "Organics," she sighed. She replicate a tricorder and scanned him quickly. She frowned, noting the sedative was still burning through faster than anticipated, but the dose she'd given him this time should keep him near comatose for a while.

As she got herself cleaned up and replicated a new uniform, she went over the probable scenarios they'd anticipated. The unpredictability of organics--especially humans--had been the sole reason for their delay in enacting their plans. They'd tried to anticipate everything that could go wrong, regardless of the probability, but still the humans were causing them issues. She connected to the others as she stepped outside of Walker's quarters, sealing his doors with a medical override to lock him in.

Attention all units: we are stepping up the timetable. Begin phase two. She sent, as she walked purposefully down the corridor.
