Jericho felt the little raider ship buck and dive as another Cardassian torpedo detonated far too close. When he fired the phasers, a short blast just to blind and deter the Galor, a quick sleight of hand embedded another of the hidden message packets. There was a good chance it would not make it out of the Badlands, but at least Kathryn would know what had happened to him and the crew of the Maquis ship. This was not precisely how he wanted to end his illustrious spy career.
It would be impossible to know if the packet separated from the phaser pulse, one that he had intentionally sent awry, and made it to the cache where it would alert Janeway of its presence. Receiving any sort of a confirmation missive would be a risk he could not afford to take.
Carpe Arma, Carpe Curiosi
Nothing more...Seize the Weapons, Seize the Spy and the last known coordinates. The Val Jean - Cain refused to think of her as Liberty as there was enough bad karma floating around without courting more bad luck by arbitrarily changing the ship's name - still carried her complement of stolen photon torpedoes...for the moment anyway. As the ship continued to shake with the crew's desperate attempts to stay alive, Jericho pondered how nice it would be to settle back into his beloved bayou and do nothing more exciting than get into the odd barroom brawl.
The Curiosi were a class of spies, informers and secret police in the time of the Roman Empire.
Arma is Latin for weapons.
