Quiet before the storm?

Mission: A Whole New World: Part 1 - Precipice
Location: USS Victory - Bridge
Timeline: 62503.68   {Thu, 22 Nov 2384 16:12}

It was fairly quiet on the bridge for the moment. Soft voices reporting system status, a few low key conversations here and there. The ever present pulse of power more felt than heard from the ships powerful engines...

It gave the Captain time to look through what information they had available regarding the Khrelan Expanse. Which wasn't much. Navigational data which was woefully incomplete. ID reference information regarding the known warp capable civilizations they might encounter. It left a lot of blank space in the report..

A lot of blank space.

There was a small notation in a report detailing the findings of a long range sensor probe sent out on a prelim sweep to gather sensor data, unusual energy readings with no identified source. They'd have to keep an eye out one they reached the Expanse... See what turned up..

Yarin awoke with a start sweat pouring down his hairless form the voices he heard in his sleep whispering things to him that he could not understand he needed to get up and go for a walk. Making his way to the bridge he noticed Captain Kennit and made his way to her.

A moment later, Nicole stepped out of the next 'lift to the bridge, pausing in the vestibule to look around. It looked a bit sterile, but then again, most Starfleet ships did to her. It also looked surprisingly empty, the excessive automation of the ship's design allowing them to function with a minimal crew for the ship's size, which is one of the main reasons she'd wanted this ship.

She stepped down to the Command Center, ready to talk to the Captain and was brought up a bit short, seeing the crewman in front of her. She'd read a preliminary report on the Nyac, but it was still something to see one up close. She knew of their telepathic abilities, and before her thoughts could wash over like an ice-cold breeze, she immediately slammed her mental blocks in place. That done, she pulled out her tricorder, attempting to discreetly take a few readings while she waited to check in with the Captain.

After a moment, the Captain looked up from the reports she was reading to see Lt. JG Yarin standing close by, with an unfamiliar officer in medical uniform not far behind him. "What do you need Mr. Yarin?" the Captain asked.

"I am not exactly sure. I was just awoken from a sound sleep by horrible voices whispering things to me. It was not a dream nor was it any of the crew this was an alien intelligence of great magnitude I am sure of it, someone is out there, they know we are coming and they are not happy about it," Yarin said.

"Oh fan-bloody-tastic," Nicole muttered. "A fleet of in-laws waiting to greet us."

The Captain just looked at him for a moment, noting the reaction of the medical officer (and approving of the fact that the woman was quietly taking a few scans of the distraught science officer) though she herself could not give voice to the first thought (or the second or even the third for that matter) which crossed her mind. "We're not even out of Federation controlled space as yet Mr. Yarin.." she commented finally. "I think what you need is to be checked out by medical. A complete workup seems to be in order.. I am starting to wonder as to whether or not you are really ready for this posting aboard the Victory."

The Captain's gaze traveled to the waiting medical officer, suspecting she knew who the woman was but waiting for her to introduce herself and confirm her hypothesis.

Nicole mentally checked her posture, her poise and slightly upped the British lilt in her voice that so often buttered a potentially crunchy first impression. "Good afternoon Captain," she said quietly, inclining her head. "Doctor Anderson, at your service."

"Ah.." the Captain responded as she stood up and walked to extend a hand towards the new CMO. "Welcome aboard Doctor. Have you have a chance to get settled aboard?"

Nicole flinched slightly, then recovered and shook the Captain's hand. "I've had a chance to browse through Sickbay. I currently have the staff bringing it up to my satisfaction."

"if you find you require any additional supplies, just let me or the XO know and we'll do what we can." the Captain answered.

Yarin composed himself, "If you insist Captain, I will agree to a medical evaluation, perhaps my heighten sensitivity is due to my impending biological crisis. But know this the insane are only deemed so until they are proven right." he said with complete sincerity and pleading eyes. He turned to the Doctor "I am at your disposal do what you need to prove me fit for duty."

Nicole's tongue clucked once, slowly and one eyebrow raised in an aristocratic fashion slowly as she listened to him explain himself.

"Well at this point, I don't know if she's insisting, but I am," she said, then turned back to the Captain. "I suppose this will have to do for 'checking in.' A pleasure to meet you, Ma'am." She stepped back, facing Yarin and gestured towards the turbolift.

"Just a thought," she whispered, leaning in towards him as they walked up, "next time you're 'defending yourself' against hearing voices, avoid terms like 'biological crisis.'"

"Truth is truth, I do not care how it makes others feel." He eyed the Doctor curiously, "Your mental defenses are strong, have you had experience with telepaths before?"

Nicole sighed as the turbolift doors closed on them, bracing herself for a long day.
