[Bridge]

The journey to the rendezvous point with the USS Bethesda had passed rather uneventfully. Attempts to raise the Bethesda via the comm system had gone unanswered, leaving just more questions for the Victory's crew to consider during the transit time.

Now however, the Bethesda could be seen on the main viewscreen. The ship hung silent and still against the dark of space. Running lights were active but the vessel was not moving, it's propulsion systems online but not active.

"Any response to our hails?" Kennit asked.

Alec turned in his seat to face her, his expression serious,"No reply Captain. We've tried all channels. If someone is home they aren't answering our hails. Recommend we send an away team to investigate the reason."

"Run a scan .. what can you tell about what's going on over there?" she asked.

"Doesn't look like their engines are powered up," Penny said, looking at her readings. "They're technically adrift, not just holding position."

After a moment of listening to unsuccessful attempts to raise the other ship, the Captain gave a nod and made an attempt to raise the other ship herself. "U.S.S. Bethesda. This is Captain Katrijn Kennit of the U.S.S. Victory. Do you read us?"

"What's that one question you can't say 'no' to?" Penny said, half to herself.

AJ leaned forward in his seat as he read the readouts of the scan. From what he could tell, there was nothing left there but dust and echoes. Still, something nagged at him due to the fact that no quarantine code was broadcasting. Turning to face the bridge crew, he saw them all concentrating on their consoles.

AJ decided to address the Captain. "Ma'am, requesting permission to lead an Away Team to reconnoiter the Bethesda?" Holding his ground, he had a feeling he was about to be shot down.

The Captain turned to look at him for a moment, thoughtfully. "Without having any information regarding what has happened over there.. the only way I'm going to even consider allowing anyone to transport over will require full bio-hazard protection gear.."

"Besides," Alec chimed in, "I suggested it first." He shot a look at Rhea as he spoke, waiting to hear what her reaction and comment would be to that. Though, he was pretty sure she'd reject his offer as well.

The Captain rolled her eyes at that, her expression as she looked towards Lt. Naroot at the helm was decidedly one which conveyed the message :: Boys.. ::

"Captain, Commander. Usually, I'd be the first to volunteer myself to stay but I brought that information aboard so I think it should be my head on the block if something hits the fan." AJ said, sighing slightly.

"I would prefer to have no one's head on the block thank you very much.." the Captain answered dryly. "Start putting together an away team. You, as well as the XO. I want everyone in full bio-hazard gear and before anyone transports over there personally we'll send a probe to take an analysis of the Bethesda's atmosphere.. just in case.."

"Of course Captain. Safety first." Alec replied with a smirk. He enjoyed going on away missions and the challenges they presented. But mostly because his going, kept Rhea in relative safety aboard the Victory. He looked around the bridge "Any volunteers?"

AJ stood behind his station, one hand sheepishly raised. "I'm already on it. We'll need multiple teams if we want to cover the whole ship."

Aidan leaned back in his seat, the last one in the center row. "I'm going to volunteer too, " he announced, "and I can bring Meiyo. She'd be helpful in this situation."

"Two questions," Penny said. "How is a condiment going to helpful, and how is it female?" She glanced at the Ops officer next to her, to see if he was as confused.

Christopher only smiled and glanced over at Aidan. He had the chance to meet Meiyo before. Christopher thought for a second about how he should probably go to make sure nothing happened to Meiyo or Aidan "I'll go"

"Meiyo," Aidan responded, being careful to pronounce it more slowly," not mayo. And she's my dog. She's not a condiment, I don't think she'd take too kindly to someone trying to eat her. And she has pretty sharp teeth."

"Ohhhhhhhhh," Penny said slowly, nodding sagely.

"You'll have to meet her some day, I think she'd like you, " the diplomatic officer said.

"Looks like you have your away team," the Captain said. "Start putting your gear together, and ready the probe to be transported over first. No one leaves this ship until we get the probe analysis back."

Aidan rose from his chair, glancing over at Chris, before striding across the bridge and into the turbolift, heading to his quarters. In addition to Meiyo, there were a couple of things he needed to pick up.

Nicole stepped out of the turbolift, padd in hand with her morning report for the Captain as Aidan rushed past her. She glanced at him, then stopped as she saw everyone turned in her direction, with AJ giving her a thoughtful look. "...what?" she said.

AJ shook his head at her, thoughts running through his head and a million miles a minute. "Nothing." he said playfully, sticking out his tongue. Resisting the urge to pull her close, he started to whistle a tune- 'The Ballad of Rodger Young'
