Mission:
Plaga Navis
Location: Holodeck 1
Arashi had arrived at the holodeck and programmed the place to be a snowy day. He started the program at the top of a hill and waited for Penny to arrive. He had never done anything in the snow before, other than snow ball fights since he had been working to get in to the academy for a long time and he never really knew how to do anything else. Thus why he wanted to try it out. "Computer, start program." He said after sending an invite to Penny to join him When she arrived she would find it lightly snowing and sunny, snow on the ground slightly sparkling in the sun.
A minute later Penny rushed in and jumped into the snow, sending up a spray at Arashi. "Hey there snowbuddy!" she said, grinning. "Ready to toboggan like a.....thing that rhymes with toboggan?"
"Don't know but I am ready to have some fun." Arashi said. "So what do you enjoy doing besides holodeck tobogganing?" He was genuinely curious about Penny and wanted to get to know her.
"Verbal jousts, surfing, and recently I've been trying to learn to cook my mother's biryani, but I'm pretty good at making jalebi," Penny prattled as she dropped her sled into the snow. "How about yourself?"
"I love to train in Anbo-Jutsu. Was champion of Starfleet Academy 2385 and 2386. Also love to study the ancient samurai and fight battles in the Holodeck, sometimes. I do bonsai trees occasionally and have a few of them back at my quarters." Arashi said. "As for cooking, I can do a fairly decent gyudon and tempura but other than that, I can't cook things well."
"Cooking is an art," Penny said, nodding. "I kept thinking it was just science, but my mom would say 'it's missing something' and I'd have to tweak it again. But every time she made something, it was perfect."
She put her sled down on the side of the hill and looked down. "Okay...no major obstacles, just the risk of flipping over into the snow. A nice smooth slide to start us off." She grinned. "See you at the bottom!" She dove onto the sled, pulling her knees in and her rear up, putting the majority of her weight forward, gravity and inertia doing the rest to pull her forward and down the hill she flew.
Arashi had to be a showoff. He stood on his toboggan and pushed himself to gain some motion and he did good for a bit. But when he got halfway down the hill, he started losing his balance. He swayed from side to side, desperately trying to keep his balance but a slightly raised patch of snow proved to be his undoing. He went ass over tea kettle and ended up face first in the snow halfway down the hill.
Having thoroughly made a fool of himself but having the time of his life he stood up and brushed himself off and gathered up what remained of his bruised pride, sat down on the toboggan and sledded the rest of the way down. "Well, that happened." He muttered to himself and laughed out loud despite himself.
Penny was rolling in the snow laughing. "Wipeout!" she said. "It's not a surfboard! It's not even a snowboard! The physics are totally different!" she laughed again, wiping tears from her eyes. "That was a great faceplant though!" She finally stood up and brushed her legs off. "Computer, start hill two!"
The scenery shifted and they were back at the top of hill. "Okay, the key to steering is center of gravity. Body down, move with the shoulders." She got down on her toboggan and demonstrated. "So avoid the snowdrifts or you're going to get another faceful!"
Arashi had watched how Penny had done it this time and did it the way she had told him to. He was doing well and he was getting good speed downhill. He passed Penny as he drifted toward the bottom of the hill as he laughed on the way down. "Come on! Catch up already." He said playfully.
Penny stuck her tongue out and slimmed herself down, reducing her wind resistance and caught up, swerving left and right around the embankments and leveling out as they reached the bottom.
"You get a little speed and suddenly you're all cocky," Penny teased.
"Well you got me there." Arashi said with a smile. "I do love to have fun and that is why I do that."
"Fair enough," Penny said. "Computer: reset." They reappeared at the top of the hill.
"Well I've got enough time for two more runs before my break is over. Go again?" she said, grinning.
"Sure we can go again." Arashi said with a grin. "Will you do the honors?" He looked to Penny with a big old smile on his face.
"Computer," she said, "reset hill, level three."
