Penny was sitting and staring out the window. She was rotating the star field in her head, orienting the mental image to match what she'd see from the shore at home. *I wonder why I want to go back to Earth,* she thought. Any Alpha Quadrant planet was just as far, and other plants offered much of what Earth did. She supposed there was something to what Cassandra had said that "there's no place like home."
She almost didn't noticed the movement next to her and turned when the other person was standing right next to her. "Hi?" she said.
"Hello. You seem lost in thought." Zack mentioned to her.
"No, I know where I am," Penny said matter-of-factly. She matched his face to the updated crew roster and brightened. "You're my new bridge buddy!" she said.
"Bridge buddy? Is that a new term used in the fleet?" He smiled at her.
"No they went with 'console companion' but I thought I'd snazz it up," she said, grinning back. "I was keeping Ops warm for you. I'm Penelope, I fly the ship." She stood up and offered her hand.
He shook the offered hand. It felt tiny in his hand. "Zack. You must be the assistant Ops officer." He looked at her. "Excuse me, are you a cadet trainee? You look like you're 16 or 17."
She huffed. "No, just how I look. It's kind of a blessing and a curse. I used to have this really cool scar on my cheek to try and look older, but it got removed when--well nevermind, not important, better just cut me off and say, 'Beep, beep, Penny,' that's what everyone does when I start to go off on a stream of consciousness or say something inappropriate which I kind of do often, kind of like now I just realized, so sorry about that!" She stopped and blushed, giggling.
"Anyway, not a cadet, graduated with honors from Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Medical as their most vocal whiz kid and now here I am!"
"You giggle a lot, I guess." He looked at her. "Good to meet you. I look forward to working with you."
"Same!" she said, grinning, then gestured to a seat. "Care to join me? Tell me all about you. I love meeting new humans." She jumped back into her chair and sat criss-crossed, elbows in her knees, chin in her hands.
He signaled the waiter. "Two more of the same." He looked at her. "Short story...parents died....went to live with relatives.....got into the academy, and here I am. You?"
"You're a keiki makua?" she said, excitedly.
"I'm a what?"
"An orphan!" Penny said. "That's so cool! I mean...not cool, but cool because I am too. I was found on a beach in Kahaluu, Hawaii. The couple that found me adopted me and I lived with them since. And yeah, academy, graduated, served and here I am!"
He smiled at her. "Then I guess that's something else we have in common." Zack started wondering if she would consider dating him, leading to a romantic involvement.
Penny grinned. "Do you surf?" she said.
"I never tried to surf."
"It's so much fun! We'll have to go to the holodeck," she said, bouncing with excitement. "What do you do for fun?"
"I like to exercise, I want to stay in top condition. I run bridge simulations on the holodeck, various scenarios that may happen. I read a lot."
"Bridge simulations?" Penny said, trying not to giggle. "So, for fun....you work...?"
He leaned close to her ear and whispered. "For fun I like to hang out with pretty women." Then he leaned back and took a sip of his drink.
Penny blushed and giggled again. "Well okay that at least counts. Do you swim? Fish? Dance? Anything physical?"
"I swim. And I can dance....but I like slow dances where I can hold my partner tight against me."
"I know that feeling," she said. "Although it's been a while for me."
"Then, why don't we go to the holodeck? I'm sure we can find an appropriate program to load."
Penny thought about it and jumped up from her chair. "Sure! Sounds great!"
He took her hand and they left the room (lounge?) and headed to the holodeck. When they got there, Zack checked the available programs and picked a suitable one, a lounge where dinner and dancing was available...in Paris, France, on Earth.
The doors opened and they entered.
"Cool, " Penny said. "I miss Earth. Only been to Paris once and that was a few years ago."
The waiter showed them to their table, on the balcony. The band was playing a slow, sensual number, so he took her hand and led her to the dance floor. He held her tightly against him and they started to move to the music.
Penny smiled at him and kept up with his lead. "You've done this before," she said. "Who taught you to dance?"
"Picked most of it up on my own. Refined it over the years." He leaned over and kissed her cheek, the nibbled on her ear lobe.
Penny giggled again, noting the sensation traveling down her neck. *Goose pimples* her mind supplied. *Analysis of actions indicates 85% probability of anticipating desires. Eleven scenarios predicted. More data required to confirm.*
"Do you do this with everyone you meet?" she said, grinning up at him, knowingly.
"Just the beautiful women." He was using ever trick he knew, and they usually worked. Normally, by now, the women would be taking him to their quarters.
"So there's one thing I can't figure out," Penny said. "Are you doing this just to have sex, or is this how you act even when you aren't trying?"
He was surprised at that question...it wasn't the type of response he usually gets. "I am trying....and if it leads to sex, that's okay. That's a strange question you asked."
She smiled and blushed a bit. "Well, not really. You've been flirting pretty hard, nibbling my ear, and then there's that," she said, glancing down at the bulge in his pants. "Or is that a phaser in your pocket?" She giggled. "I just figured I'd ask your intentions since you were trying so hard." She stood on her tiptoes and gave him a kiss on the cheek back.
"So....your quarters or mine?"
Penny bit her lip and thought about it, and shrugged her shoulders. "Yours. Mine aren't exactly 'ready for company.'" She smiled and looked up. "Computer, end program," she said.
She immediately opened up a new file in her mind and began making notes. The next phase of her research was about to start and she found herself rather excited. She grinned up at Zach and headed for the door, letting him have a view of her walking.
They walked along the corridor, his arms around her waist and her arm across his back. Anyone they past probably knew what was about to happen.
Just as they neared his quarters, they ran into the ship's Chief Medical Officer coming around a curve in the corridor.
Nicole nodded to them, then did a double take. "Penelope," she said slowly, her british lilt adding a touch of silk that her tone lacked. "I don't believe I've met your associate, here."
Zack looked at the attractive woman. "Zack Logan. Pleasure to meet you."
"Indeed," Nicole said. "Time will tell, won't it." Her nostrils flared a bit as she inhaled, watching his skin flush and his pulse increase. He was giving off pheromones by the bucketful, and she was relatively sure Penny was about to be in over her head.
She tapped her combadge, disabling it, and looked at Penny. "Ra-tra wi-tor?"
"Wes dahkuh," Penny said, grinning.
"Ish-veh is-tor du na’guv-tvi-rivak," Nicole said, folding her arms.
"I know!" Penny said, then lowered her voice. "So imagine what I could learn."
Nicole sighed and shrugged and gave Penny a kiss on the cheek, then walked up to Logan and grabbed him by the collar, pulling him down to her level with her not inconsiderable strength. She leaned into his ear and whispered, her breath soft against it. "Hurt her, and I'll amputate it," she said, sweetly. She gave him a peck on the lips and smiled at him and stepped back. "Have a good evening," she said.
"That's the plan," Penny teased.
"I think she's starting to like me." Zack pressed the door panel and the doors slid by. "After you."
"Actually, that was pretty gentle for her," Penny giggled, slipping through the doorway. "She'll warm up to you, I'm sure."
Logan followed her into the room. "Basic quarters. Living room. Work station. Bathroom. Bedroom."
"Same as mine," Penny said. "Just more floor space." She did a twirl in the center of the room. "I'm not very tidy."
Logan sat at the foot of the bed as he watched her. "Are you the type to just throw your clothes all over the place when you take them off?"
"Yeah kinda," Penny said. "And I usually don't get them all put away when I'm done laundering them. Back home I was usually in a sari or my surfing gear, so draping over a chair was kind of second nature to me."
He held his hand out to her. "Come here.", he said softly.
She walked over and took his hand, standing in front of him, expectantly. "Yes?" she said, tilting her head, a curious but amused smile on her face.
He pulled her face to his and started kissing her. As they kissed, his hands moved up and down her back. He tugged at her shirt, and started to lift it off.
She kissed him back and pulled it off, sitting on his lap, keeping their lips together. She silently thanked Thomas for giving her enough experience to know what to do, then felt an unexpected pang of sadness. She noted it and set it aside for later, keeping her focus on the human in front of her. She wrapped her arms around his neck held him tight.
He cupped her backside and squeezed. He started kissing her neck...then her shoulders...then her breasts.
Penny purred in his ear and shivered as her nerves tingled. She nibbled on his ear gently, assuming he'd appreciate a reciprocated gesture and ran her fingers up the back of his neck.
Zack laid back, pulling her with him. He started undoing her pants.
Penny decided things were in need of a speedup and swiftly slipped out of the rest of her clothes and jumped fully onto the bed, beckoning him with a finger, grinning.
Zack quickly pulled off his pants and jumped into bed with her.
